Re: SMOKING BAN EXTENSION
In the EU, we are increasingly living ina big brother society, attempting to control every part of our lives, what we do, how do it, where we do it, whom we do it with and so on.
I don't know about you, but I prefer freedom any day. If I want to be controlled in every way, I would simply cease to be.......... |
Re: SMOKING BAN EXTENSION
I think the ban has worked really well so far. We now have restaurants and ventas where there is no smoking which is great for us. However the little bars still allow smoking which is fine for them, but I think to be able to go into a bank or public building and not be assailed by a fug of smoke must be beneficial to all. I remember being in Malaga airport and it was disgusting with the smoke, now it is smoke free. So how can you say it hasn´t worked. I personally think Spain has got it about right so far. What I do hate is to see parents smoking above their children´s heads.

My experience has been that where establishments do have a no-smoking rule (either wholly or in part) it is enforced by the owners- I've seen this in Valencia, in Madrid and in Cantabria. I don't know where people get this idea that rules are never observed in Spain. However it can be argued that not nearly enough establishments do have a no-smoking rule, in order to give the local population a decent choice. |
Re: SMOKING BAN EXTENSION
Personally the smell of ciggies always makes me feel quite ill, so a ban is fine by me.

And the alcoholics? The drain on resources that causes? Shall we ban that as well?

Yes you have a choice. Go in a bar that doesnt allow smoking :) How many would be allowed to impose a non smoking rule? The selfish smokers would simply kick up about their human rights blah blah blah blah... and the bar owner would be fined for infringing their human rights, just like the guy who appealed at his life time banning for a bar recently, he won his case, went back in the pub and kicked off so much that the owners ended up selling up..... why was he banned? For kicking off! Smokers think they are doing nothing wrong, the only pleasure now is in sitting in the pub in the depths of winter while the rain lashes down and I look out of the window and watch the smokers trying to light their fags in the wet and looking absolutely miserable! |
Re: SMOKING BAN EXTENSION
Roll on the day the full public place ban comes into effect, the sooner the better.
I am highly allergic to the evil weed and the present laws dont seem to have had a great effect in my area. Any idea when it may come into force or has it all to be passed yet? |

Take the point, but the ban is particularly to protect non smoking employees from having to choose between their health and their jobs.
