A president would just be a figurehead like the Queen... but with a major difference...at least they would be elected not by birth right!

"Remember to hold tight to nurse, for fear of finding something worse".
Like children, we are always told to stay faithful to church, state, and crown, because the alternatives would be worse.
These are presumably those people who describe democracy as a failure, simply because it doesn't deliver to them exactly what they think they deserve. At least democracy gives us a free country to live in, where we don't have to live in fear because we think the wrong thoughts.
The royals are just the descendants of thugs, who killed and enslaved the population to give themselves an easy life at the expense of everyone else.
Since when has that sort of behaviour had any place in a civilised country, and why should we go on rewarding them for the crimes comitted by their ancestors?
My tax money goes into the Windsor's pockets, and I have no say about it.
That is wrong.
We believe that government has no right to take our money without our having a say in the matter. No taxation without representation, I believe is the phrase.
Howso then are the moneys accruing to the crown exempt? Put it to the vote, and I will go with the majority, happily, because at least then I will have had my say. If there are so many royalists out there, then they will win for certain, or is it that they know full well that they are out of place and time, clinging onto the hands of a 'Nurse' they should have outgrown long, long ago?
Let the Windors pay all the tax that we have to, especially inheritance tax. Let them work for a living and stop taking taxpayers money who have no say in the matter.
That won't happen, because there are too many people in positions of power who gain benefits at our expense, and to topple the Crown's right to unelected freebies might endanger theirs.
Excellent. Put it to the vote, and let's start trimming the turkeys' feathers a bit. While we are at it, let's put MP's wages to the axe, and remove from them the power to grant themselves overinflated wages and pensions, instead placing it in the hands of chosen people who earn the minimum wage.
Was there ever a better cause to grant a bit of power to the people?

Tax payers not financing the monarchy would make next to no difference to the man in the street and without a monarchy tourism would go down dramaticaly in time for sure, I certainly dont begrudge 60 pence or what ever it is as its a sound investment for the economy in general, also if you pay tax in Spain I understand that some goes to the church regardless of your religion ,thats surley worse ,financing paedophiles!!
As for ancestral thugs in the family I`m sure everyone has had them if you go back far enough

If I turned around and said 'Tell you what. My family is better than yours ever could be. Because of that everybody has to give me some of their hard earned cash.'
I bet you'd all squeal pdq.
You can keep the monarchy as long as they pay the full whack of tax, and get no state money.
I certainly don't think any state money should go to churches whether they are a hot bed of paedophiles or not. They shouldn't be allowed to be charities either and evade paying tax.
You want to pay for the crown or the church, then do so out of your own pocket, and after you have paid all your tax.
Your choice, your right.
Don't try and cover the fact that the rest of us have no choice in the matter. That's wrong.

Everybody sing along...
'We'll take it up the rse,
Cos you're the ruling class,
Long to look down on us
God rot you all!'

Sorry it has all gone, the cous cous, with big chunks of lamb whole carrots, sausage thingies, spuds, bowl of cooked sultanas, was great, and it was not made by my marida, which is a plus for me ( she is not looking right now).

Her in doors says, "we'll have to show our faces, it would be rude not to, they've been busy with food etc". So popped round, had a glass or two of their wine, had a chat to all the neighbours, and have now excused myself. Left them to it.
That was my contribution to the celebrations!

So there I was, no intention of watching the wedding, busy up a ladder hacking down some hedge in the garden when the guy from next door says, "we're having some drinks and nibbles in a minute, would you like to join us?

It looks like one of those games where you cannot touch the sides or an alarm will go off.

Weddings seem to bring out the best and worst in designers, the problem is that people wear them. At least Ascot is a bit of fun.

Fully agree, and we do that sort of ceremony so well here, about 1,000,000 people in London for the wedding, flags of all nationalities being waved.. and that crowd walking down the Mall to see them on the balcony, don't see many such crowds in other countries so well behaved..
