Royal Wedding
#61
Talking about royal families did anyone see the photo of the spanish royals in the news. King was looking very strange with a wild beard. They said that close up he looked very unkempt. Then there is the anorexic lollipop head Letizia, looks as if Kate will go the same way.

This is her off to the wedding, looks like something from Oxfam.

Any pics of that? Or justification for that comment?
Letizia looks slim, so in real life she probably does look a tad skinny. Shame that women in their position couldn't kick a bit at the traces and be a bit more normal.

I love the way the ardent anti royalist roll out the whole "they cost us a fortune" and "they do absolutely nothing for the country"... and that we should have an electable president instead. Yeah, millions of tourists will FLOCK to the UK to see President Blair and his thieving wife in their Presidential Palace in Bristol, or all come to stare at president Brown the kiddie fidler in hid Mid Terraced home in Scotland.... They make no laws, rule no subjects, command no power, none more than their money allows, and if we are going to get rid of them on the grounds that they are rich then we are going down a sticky road that countries like China, Russia and Cuba went down, and look how that turned out for the "common" folk eh?

I am not into monarchies but as I would with any young couple I wish them all the very best for a long and happy marriage, particularly considering the media circus that they will have to endure.

I hope and think that it will be a better match than previous marriages in the Windsor family.

Agree, I'm no big monarchist, I've not seen a minute of the build up, and I won't be watching anything today, however when I see the alternatives to the Royal Family, I'm not impressed, I'll stick with what we've got. And compared with some other countries, they are cheap, I'm more than happy to pay my share, about 60p per person per year, una ganga!
Anyway I have got my union jack gayumbos on today, at the insistance of the missus, in honour of the wedding.

At times I don't like living in an expat area and make a point of frequenting Spanish places to remind me that I am living in Spain, but not today. The whole place is buzzing with excitement and there are parties everywhere. And people are dressing up, I saw a woman on her way to a wedding dinner where a prize will be awarded for the best hat.
The coverage on TV is wall to wall, and it doesn't matter which country's television you're watching. I can't remember any other occasion when I've seen so many happy faces on TV.
But this is a discussion forum and I'm aware that some people disagree with all this happiness they say they're not going to watch.
It reinforces my belief that some people think they're alive because they walk about with a beating heart and display all the other functions of life. But there's one that's missing they don't know about. It's called soul.

What, the pro royal argument is that there are worse?
That's not an argument, that's the sound of desperation.

No, agree, not desperation, it's pointless dumping something unless you have something better to replace it with. Spain has tried it a few times, and each time it restored the monarchy.
