Re: Problems in Gibraltar again
For info a map of Territorial waters around Gibraltar:
http://www.gibnet.com/fish/waters.gif Some points of interest: Spain claims a 12 mile limit, Gibraltar only three. Spain claims a vast area of sea 12 miles around Ceuta The limit to the west of Gibraltar is less than three miles - it runs down the centre of the bay. |
Re: Problems in Gibraltar again
Thanks for that, interesting:) How come that Spain got all that around morocco:huh:
|
Re: Problems in Gibraltar again
I think you will find that Spain has more than is shown on that map.
She claims fishing rights around the small islands / rocks she has near the Moroccan coast. |

Maybe,
The fact is that but for the Moors bringing with them all their knowledge and know-how, the Spanish might well still be living in caves,.... though I suppose a few of them still do. ;) |

The Moors and the Jews, between them they made Spain what it was. Without their input, they might well be living in caves. Shortest book ever written, Spanish Inventions. I expect we'll get the usual few offered, (submarine????) but really they invented very, very little. They left that all to their fellow Europeans, as Unamuno said, ¡Que inventen ellos! ;)
Steady on ag. I think you're being a bit harsh there. I mean they did invent glass bottom boats, so they could view their Navy sitting on the sea-bed. ;) |

Re: Problems in Gibraltar again
The good old Vikings got there long before the others. They rowed and raped and pillaged, and even stayed for a while if the women were pretty.
Having rowed all over the place, quite a few of them settled in Scotland. I've always wondered why. Surely it wasn't because up there even the men walk about in skirts? |
Re: Problems in Gibraltar again
After a quiet time last night ( was there a football match or something ) an armed Spanish vessel has just made a provocative run through Gib's waters.

Re: Problems in Gibraltar again
The assumption that Spain owns/can control the waters directly in front of Gib is absurd & would any other country (call it what you will) allow this particularly if its a port, let alone a military based one (or used to be)
To allow this would in effect close the port to all traffic unless permission is granted in the worse case. IMO the UK should simply sell the bloody place back to the Spanish as it would fetch a tidy few billions. |
