Try not to get youself a reputation as a plonker, when people are telling you how it is widely portrayed all over the Spanish media, it is hard for the natives pop, so they chances are it will not turn out great for a new arrival. why not take it on board, and wonder why they are telling you.
For every "success" story, there are a lot more hardship ones.

We are trying to get the point across that now is not the right time.
A few years ago,I suppose in your position, you could have taken a chance, but things have changed so much recently.
Business are suffering and the days of easy money for most are gone,
There are lots of immigrant workers from "poorer" countries who have conrneredthe market in the "willing to do anything" jobs.
They will settle for a lot less than a Brit, if you know what I mean, they will live5 to a roon to save on rent,etc.
I dont know any Brits that would do that,
So obviously they can undercut wages and such, they have more or less monopolised the cash in hand work.
I cant see things changing in the near future either

No, nor me, I can't believe an intelligent, well educated medical type would even think of coming to a foreign country without having done some homework first. There are Spanish forums of Spanish living all around the world where costs of living, job prospects etc are discussed ad infinitum. I see Spain has now over 5 million unemployed, the highest rate since 1994, just about anywhere now offers a better chance of a job. Reading their forums, there are plenty of posts in a London forum talking about the best clubs, pubs, music venues etc, somebody must be doing OK.

Well if the Poles are taking the jobs, there must be jobs , so why aren't the Brits getting them? Not suitable, too lazy, won't work for minimum wage? Probably the readily available benefits have a lot to do with it, and as JLFS says, you can forget those in Spain. Bad as it is in UK, unemployment rate is running at just over 8%, Spain's is nearly three times that at 23%.

There are 9 million economically inactive people of working age in the UK. Spain may have a different way of counting the unemployed, but it's getting just as bad in the UK.
The good news is there are lots of jobs (in Spain and in the UK), just they need skills that many of us haven't got.

I take it as a bit smug coming from a non resident like yourself pointing out how many jobs there are for people, when a lot of the native population I know are without jobs or fearful of losing the ones they have.
It just seem abit hypicritical, knowing that as you couldnt hack it here, you went back to the UK and now from the comfort of your armchair, and telling others that there are plenty of jobs.
