Will the Brits still visit if the place is overun by Russians? Seen them in Banus and not the atmosphere you would want! Not sure if it's possible to get away from them, friends said they have spoiled Crete.
 Didn't the Brits say the same about the Germans ??? |
Re: How will La Crisis effect Spain in the long term?
I've read stuff like, hat about the russians, but so far every Russian tourist I've met have been surprisingly nice.

At least 40% of our golf club on the CDS are Germans, some of them good friends. However the Russians on the coast live up to all the stereotypes. black leather jackets in winter, lots of leopard skin fabrics for women, including bags and above all...lots of bling. They are also loud and vulgar.
If you want to defend them, that's ok. They can open Russian bars and fill all the empty locales:lol: |

Loud and Vulgar is one thing, but honestly, fashion choices are an opinion rather than an indictment. There is more than a fair share of "loud and vulgar" Brits, too (and no shortage of British women who could be said to dress tastelessly). |
Barroso finally admits that Europe is at its limit
It took about 5 years, but it seems reality is beginning to set in:
“While this policy is fundamentally right, I think it has reached its limits in many aspects,†Mr Barroso said. “A policy to be successful not only has to be properly designed. It has to have the minimum of political and social support.†Mr Barroso’s comments come as advocates of the eurozone’s austerity-led crisis response are on the defensive following a voter revolt in Italy, a deepening recession in much of the bloc and the tarnishing of a highly-influential academic treatise arguing high government debt severely hinders economic growth. |

They are like a new breed, possibly quite a few with Mafia connections, and are really desperate to impress and impose themselves on anyone and everyone they come across. Possibly many of them suddenly having serious money in their hands and visiting new countries in some cases for the first time, seems to send them on some sort of permanent power trip, especially when they get a few vodkas down their necks. |
Re: How will La Crisis effect Spain in the long term?
I've met just a few Russians in my time - I once had Russian landlords in London, I've worked with IT programmers based near Oxford, and I also came across a few working in Madrid, mainly in labouring jobs. I can't say I recognise the descriptions being given here, but this seems to be often the case when we discuss Spain. Maybe if I had spent any time in a Marbella golf club I would recognise the stuff that we read here. Plenty of rich Russians in London too, but I don't seem to mix in those circles. :o

No one is saying that it only applies to Spain, Steve. There are quite a few well known resorts throughout both Europe and Asia where similar complaints are numerous. Like wise it is unfair to generalize or apply it to all Russians. However if you ever have the misfortune to run into a bunch of this "new arrogant breed" for want of a better description, I think you would quickly comprehend what all the complaints are about. |

I think what you know about Spain could be written on a postage stamp without google. You have never spent hardly any time out of Madrid..what was it, a few days in Valencia and soo long ago you were in teaching the Russians weren't actually anywhere in numbers to notice them:p
A good site for tourist info is hosteltur. it seems that even flights from Turkey to Spain are increasing this year. Even so I doubt we'll bump into many Turks in our planned investigation trip this year (Cantabria and Navarra). Don't worry, we won't go anywhere near your Marbella golf club. :D http://www.hosteltur.com/146750_turk...pana-2013.html |

I've told you before Jacky, the worst place to find information is often google. If you want to search for info use aggregation sites (bookmark the best) and use Twitter for up-to-date info.

No, you've misunderstood. we're going to be looking at possible retirement places. I already know that the places we're looking at this year are probably beyond our budget, but the bh is in love with northern Spain. Still trying to persuade her that Valencia (or maybe Granada) offers a lot better value...:fingerscrossed:
Best of luck with your search. I love the North myself, from Cantabria and West mainly, but there's quite a difference in the Winter climate, compared with here in the Valencian region. Even less than a hundred kms away from me, the Winter weather can be atrocious at times. There are many other regions I quite like, but generally only at certain times of the year. All things considered, as far as the Peninsula is concerned, I'm quite happy here. |
