I'd hardly spend time on here if that was the case. I'm sure the comments section on the Mail or the Guardian or even the BBC would reach a vastly greater audience.

As for Andalucia, I see Malaga football club are playing at home this weekend. Are we really going to see empty terraces there? I think not? Can't see Real Betis playing before an empty crowd either.
Atletico Madrid then? Nope.
Athletic Bilbao perhaps? Nope.
I think I've mentioned packed and heaving bars before - well maybe I'm just lucky when I fly out there.
Are Starbucks empty in Spain? Genuine question by the way - they serve overpriced coffee as a brand. Can someone here who is actually in Spain pop to their local Starbucks and post a pic? It may actually be empty (and prove me wrong) but I have my doubts..
Of course this doesn't mean there aren't a lot of youngsters without long-term stable work in their area, particularly in the south/ Andalucia. But, as I've said, there are a lot of hard-working and talented Spanish out there who will resolve the situation. Despite the best efforts of some who waste no opportunity to badmouth a whole nation.

Of course the bars will be full and the footie terraces too, that is there for all to see.

There may be 80 thousand fans in the stadium, but what you don´t see is a much much greater number of the fans that cannot afford to go to watch the match, which could be through unemployment.

What is seen is one thing and what is not seen is another.

I remeber a cousin from Spain came to visit us years ago in the UK, she was about 17 at the time.

We went to eat out and she remarked that there were not many children in
the UK as we did not see any in the streets, it was about 10pm at night.

I told her there were loads of children but they were all at home in bed.

That is a bit like your senarios, you see places full of spenders, but then you don´t see the greater number of "can´t afford to be spenders".

When I'm next in Spain in a few weeks? Not really, they're overpriced.
I can always take pictures of crowded bars in Madrid - plenty about. Same here in London too.
Do you go in Starbucks in Surrey?

You don´t have to buy, you could use the ploy of pretending to look for a business colleague, use the loo, if you want to, then go to a cheaper place for your coffee.

But I bet you do that already, as you seem to spend a lot of time in Sbucks-

You've been wrong time and time again. Lord Haw-haw? You don't even have his judgement level.

Could still happen yet.
They're only still hanging in there by a thread and I expect it will take more than a few Ruskies and Real fans to pull them out of the mire.
Lets just hope the unrest doesn't get completely out of hand, though the way the police are wading in smashing skulls in may keep the lid on it for a while longer.

To be fair, there are only about 10 branches of Starbucks in the whole of Spain, and they mainly cater to tourists in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville. I lived near one in Barcelona, mainly American tourists were in there

I had some work colleagues visit me recently in Oviedo, they couldn't believe what they saw. People were out and about in all the shops, cafeterias, restaurants etc, they couldnt believe that this is a country with 27% unemployment. And they actually though the prices at the restaurants were expensive compared to London, God knows where they are used to eating at

Saying that, the figures come from somewhere, so there are obviously a lot of people who are having a bad time of it, but the rest get by pretty much the same as they always have

''I predict a riot''! Good name for a song....

There is an underlying feeling around the country which will explode into full blown anarchy given a little more incentive....And the more headlines as those in the 'El Pais' today will only move to feed the feeling... Bring it on!

I've just finished 'Homage to Catalonia' by George Orwell.

What you've written is quite chilling.

I dont feel that at all, the worst I've seen is a few Facebook messages and the own moan over a beer, but then again, if there is going to be revolution it will probably start in Catalunya or Andalucia

have you forgotten that May/June is the time when school leavers will come onto the (un)employment market ??

if there are no jobs for those who are experienced and will obviously take any form of contract so long as there is some money at the end of the week how the flying fish do you expect school leavers who know nothing about anything to get jobs

300? It would need to be 3 million to make a difference!;) It's looking grimmer by the week.

The number of unemployed climbed by 237,400 people during the first quarter in the eurozone’s fourth-largest economy, according to new data released by Spain’s National Statistics Institute on Thursday.
The jobless figure is the highest since Spain’s transition to democracy after the death of dictator Gen Francisco Franco and is expected to worsen before year end. The number of households in which all members are unemployed soared by 72,400 people in the first quarter, reaching 1.91 million overall.
