I think that the EU may have more important things to worry about at the moment.!!!

What a wonderful institution eh, well for those privileged enough to stick their greedy noses in the trough at least.

But just think how many bottles they will be able to down whilst talking nonsense about how they are going to make the Russians regret invading Ukraine. That will put out the fear of God into the Ruskies.
Meanwhile Russia will be negotiating with China to take all of the Russian gas because those nasty EU members have upset her.

Better to concentrate on the things that are really important in the world of international affairs like the queues at the Gibraltar frontier .!!

I take it that you did NOt read Freds refernce to what he perceives as innction on the part of the EU .
I was merely pointing out that they have better things to discuss at the moment.
Matters which could affect Millions in Europe rather than the few on Gibraltar.
I repeat it was Fred who bought up the EU.

It's interesting to read the last few exchanges and I nearly said something about the importance of the EU but stopped myself in time because this thread is about Gibraltar, a tiny place and only relevant to a tiny number of people, of which I am one along with a million British expats in Spain and a few hundred in Gibraltar.
So we can safely forget the EU and the rest of the world for this discussion which really only concerns 30,000 Gibraltarians, 50 Million Spanish people and 60 Million British people, and Fred, Dick, EMR and me, and a few others who haven't posted recently.
I've always liked to visit the Rock, for well over 20 years now. It's an easy drive to somewhere different, I remember a fairly recent visit on Gibraltar day when we took many photographs on our new digital toy.
I looked at some earlier, brilliant quality even without photoshop. I'm not saying this to score any silly points, but those swarthy Gibraltarians in British uniforms are not what British people expect to see of their soldiers - a bit like the Ghurkhas I suppose.
We also managed to evade the cheeky apes for long enough to take some photographs from the very top. It's a profound place and the only suitable place in the world I can think of where you can closely observe two entirely different continents stretching into the distance.
If you close your eyes you can see the Viking long ships landing their boats to start raping and pillaging, followed by the pious Moros a few centuries later. It took 700 years to get rid of the pious ones.
I've got no idea about the political future, it's not worth fighting over, they should shake hands on it, change a few silly rules and get rid of the daft border.

La Linea shrinks as British nationals move out
The population of La Linea shrank for the first time in 16 years during 2013, with British nationals leading the exodus, according to figures from the Spanish national statistics institute.
The size of the population in the Spanish border town shrank by 2,007 people to reach 62,697 inhabitants, similar to levels recorded in 2005.

Less income again for the Spanish citizens of what I believe is the town with the highest unemployment in Spain
Well done Rajoy

Hooded men attack Customs border patrol
“Whilst officers were conducting a routine patrol of the area, a group of 4 men in hooded tracksuits were sighted immediately south of the frontier fence,†the Gibraltar Government said in a statement.
“The men proceeded to throw stones at the officers in a completely unprovoked attack.†“The group then fled across the frontier fence to Spain where they continued their assault.â€

I wonder where the GC were ?
After all they are supposed to be protecting Spain from all those nasty Gibraltarian cigarettes
Must be an impossible task for a country with a population of 45+ million to protect a frontier 1200 metres long

anyone would think that the rest of the world were denying the existance of the place because they can't do anything about it.
