Although I do not live in Gib. I believe that,as an independent territory, the Chief Minister IS the person to negotiate. That is much the same as many Scottish people think as regards to Westminster.

'The head of state is the British monarch, currently Queen Elizabeth II, who is represented by the Governor of Gibraltar. The governor enacts day-to-day matters on the advice of the Gibraltar Parliament, but is responsible to the British government in respect of defence, foreign policy, internal security and general good governance.' Wiki

So UK still has a limited say in post-Brexit Gibraltar with regard to relations with Spain and EU.

Spain has always insisted on bilateral talks between UK and Spain as they think that including Gibraltar is a tacit admission of its separate rights. Spain pursues the dogma of territorial integrity- a notion it doesn't extend to Cueta and Mellila - and refuses to acknowledge Gibraltarians' rights to self determination as enshrined in the UN charter.

The PP Party has asked for an urgent explanation in Congress as to why the Spanish Foreign Minister met with Fabian Picardo. The party has described it as a historic error which contravenes Spain’s red lines.

The Spanish embassy in Washington DC has been pressuring a number of US congressmen to give up their support of Gibraltar's right to self-determination in a concerted campaign over several years. This is according to a report in the Telegraph, which says seven current and former members of the US House of Representatives were approached by Spain through letters, phone calls and meetings.

https://www.gbc.gi/news/spain-pressu...egraph-reports

The Government says it's known about this for several years with the Deputy Chief Minister having briefed Parliament on it in several budget speeches. It claims these tactics by Spain have been counterproductive with several congressmen having made clear to the Government that they refuse to be dictated to by Spanish Officials and that they'll continue to visit Gibraltar.

The UK’s ambassador to Morocco, Thomas Reilly, has signalled the “enormous potential” for trade and commerce between the North African kingdom and Gibraltar after Brexit.

The comments were made during a wide-ranging interview with Spanish newspaper El Español during which Mr Reilly reflected on the UK’s relationship with Morocco.

Last year, the UK and Morocco signed an agreement that established a post-Brexit political and economic association between the UK and Morocco, including a comprehensive free trade area.

Gibraltar has again achieved the second-highest rating of ‘largely compliant’ in the latest international Peer Review of tax information exchange.

Carried out by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, an intergovernmental economic group with 37 member countries, Gibraltar's rating is the same as the USA, Germany, the UK & Spain.

The review included the visit to the Rock by an OECD assessment team in 2019.

1) An illegal incursion by a Spanish customs vessel on Wednesday afternoon will be strongly protested to the authorities in Madrid by the Office of the Governor. The incident took place in waters out from Ocean Village and the Spanish vessel is deemed to have taken "executive action" in Gibraltar waters as it pursued a local fast launch

2) GBC has also put questions to the Office of the Governor about the presence of a Spanish Navy warship in Gibraltar waters this afternoon and is awaiting a reply
