Any reasonable petson would expect Gibraltar to set the highest standards but money is obviously more important than keeping the higher ground.
Were the waters around Gibraltar British such a quota would be illegal.
Incorrect on two points. BGTW is a separate entity and therefore can apply for a quota in its own right: the UK has not applied and does not have a quota for Blue-fin, if the UK could show good cause and a previous history then it could apply for a quota but this quota would not apply in BGTW. There is no link between the two.
You constantly confuse Britain and British with the UK. I don't know if this is plain ignorance or mischievous disingenuity. Funnily enough Spain and the Spanish often make the same mistake which means that they fear that if they recognise BGTW then the UK will automatically enjoy the same territorial rights, which is not the case but does cause animosity.

Can Gibraltar show any good cause and previous history to justify awarding itself a quota ?
You may recall in the early days our Gibraltar apologists tried to claim that there was no fishing industry in Gibraltar a blatant lie as those involved in the business have already met the quota and now got themselves an even bigger one.
Thank you for clarifying that the waters in question are not British, hopefully we will stop wasting time and money playing policeman and leave it up to the protagonists who should know better.

I've heard that smoking bluefin leads to tax evasion. And gambling.

In case you didn't notice, YOU are the object of the larf. But it's quite normal that you'd get it bass-ackwards.

Blue fin for soup not when its worth its weight in gold, but of course that has nothing to do with awarding yourself a quota for " sports fishing ".

Govt pre-empts Spain’s tax attack on Rock

by Brian Reyes

The EU’s special committee on tax was reminded this week of Gibraltar’s solid record of compliance with international transparency rules, pre-empting a Spanish minister who sought to tar the Rock as ‘an opaque, permanent headache’

None of this made any difference to Sr de Guindos, who repeated the traditional Spanish line.

Spain would be more likely to respond to robustness from the UK than reasonableness. This is the view of the outgoing Governor, Sir James Dutton who spoke at a farewell reception hosted by the Gibraltar Government. Sir James observed that, although the aggressive sovereignty claim from Spain hadn’t changed in 35 years, Gibraltar had developed from an MoD Based economy to a high-tech city state in that time

DONT TWIST MY WORDS - I DID NOT SAY THAT THE WATERS ARE NOT BRITISH SINCE THEY ARE. The clue is in their name BRITISH Gibraltar Territorial Waters. As a self governing British territory Gibraltar is quite entitled to request an extension to its quota

Picardo and Cameron discuss law enforcement at sea

“I managed to have a few words with the Prime Minister about law enforcement issues in British Gibraltar territorial waters,” Mr Picardo said. “He was very aware of the current situation.”
