1) Gibraltar gains international support to counter Spanish pressure in sport

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) will support Gibraltar’s fight to gain acceptance into sports federations which deny the Rock’s entry due to political pressure from Spain.

2) Don’t expect dialogue with Spain anytime soon

The decision by Spain’s National Hockey Federation to ban their teams from playing with local clubs in any tournament, friendly or official match has again opened up fresh wounds, lesions that are under constant attention.

3) Hockey umpire of the year award for Gibraltar's Nathan Stagno I'll bet Spain didn't vote for him

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has announced the men's Umpire of the Year award. He is Gibraltar's Nathan Stagno.

Gibraltarian Hockey Clubs will continue to play Spanish Clubs in future, following a u-turn by the Spanish governing body on Friday. This followed a week of controversy where it emerged that the ban had been put in place, despite a European Federation assurance that they hadn't sanctioned the move.

The Royal Gibraltar Police Dog Section recently hosted a visit by a delegation comprising Spanish Policia Local officers from Algeciras, Burgos and Seville amongst others. Officers included Dog Handlers, Instructors and Supervisors.

This latest visit forms part of the RGP Dog Section’s ongoing relationship with other Spanish Policia Local dog units and more importantly, the South Yorkshire Police Dog School, who licence all RGP dogs/handlers annually, and who supported last week’s visit.

Anti-Gibraltar mayor of Algeciras extends hand of friendship!

The mayor of Algeciras, Jose Antonio Landaluce, who has spent the last 4 years attacking Gibraltar, its leaders and its people on a PP stance, has now spoken in favour of having good relations with Gibraltar!

"There is a need to strengthen ties with Gibraltar, there must be no abuse but we must not allow that they abuse us, there must be dialogue,'' he said.

Algeciras pilot vessel second incursion this month

A 37,469 dwt tanker operated by Algeciras pilots in Gibraltar waters without communicating with Gibraltar Port or Gibraltar VTS is I believe a recipe for disaster.

This comes after the Spanish MEP, Ramon Jauregui Atondo, tabled a question before the European Parliament in which he said that Gibraltar ‘facilitates tax evasion and financial crime’.

Gibraltar received a glowing review from the OECD on our record on exchange of information and transparency.”

“All EU measures on financial supervision and regulation, exchange of information on direct taxation and the fight against money laundering are in force in Gibraltar and the European Commission has recognised Gibraltar’s full compliance with EU obligations in all these areas.

Spain should cooperate and coordinate with law enforcement and military assets in Gibraltar through “consensual dialogue” to avoid high-risk, potentially fatal situations at sea, Lieutenant General Edward Davis has said.

The Governor of Gibraltar and Commander in Chief was speaking in the wake of last week’s “provocative and unacceptable” incursion in which the Spanish Navy corvette Infanta Elena risked collision with a Royal Navy patrol boat.

In his first interview since being sworn in as Governor, Lt Gen Davis said Britain had “absolute confidence” in Gibraltar’s “irrefutable legal and moral authority” over its sea, land and airspace.

I read today the first mention of Gibralter in the context of BREXIT and I thought that the tone was just about right. If the current lunatic acting foreign minister should retain office I do think that the frontier would be walled off immediately when the ink dries on the leaving certificate.Gib would survive as it always does but heaven help the workers on the other side. Cadiz is already the poorest Province with the highest unemployment rate but that would not turn a hair for the Francoist at the foreign office.
