only if they avail themselves of an S1 form & register with the Spanish state healthcare system

I (for other reasons) have S1 forms for myself & my children - but the UK doesn't pay anything to Spain for us because I haven't registered under the state healthcare system with them - I am registered as a self-employed worker & pay for our healthcare myself

Would you be so kind as to read my first post on this subject and take note of the fact that I preceded my thoughts with a question inviting a response to my own thoughts on the subject. As a "Super Moderator" one would have thought that you would have made note of that.

I do have the ability to read do you?

I will repeat :- Well I can assure you that the UK pays naff all towards my healthcare even though I receive a derisory UK pension.

With due respect I specifically referred to UK pensioners and your reply indicates to me that you are not in that bracket.

no I'm not - but the fact remains that unless a pensioner registers with the state healthcare system here by way of an S1 form, the UK doesn't pay for them

I certainly have a very good ability to read and can only surmise that your situation is somewhat different to that of other UK expat pensioners. Am I right?

Of course I would fully accept that it is the responsibility of them to register and if they do not then they suffer the consequence of their action. Why would people not register other than the obvious of having something to hide!

some don't register because they prefer to use private healthcare in the mistaken belief that it's better &/or they will get English speaking medical staff

nothing to with having anything to hide


you do seem to have a rather low opinion of your fellow man :(

Good thread this ..im lucky all year sunshine.. I asked Newcastle why i got heating allowance.. and they said all pensioners get it no matter were you live..

Or they prefer to use private health, or they are self employed here, or did that not cross your mind

To qualify for an S1 form do you have to be officially resident with all that implies ?
If so that would explain why those who want to fly under the radar regard the UK as their scource of free health treatment even as no longer UK resident they do not qualify.
The late father of a work colleague did just that having retired to Spain 15 years ago always came back to the UK for any treatment, using his daughters address. He never became resident.

Well you very obviously have not taken into account my last reply to you. However, I feel sure that you will agree that as I am now in a china shop I have the right to put my point of view in answering to the responses I am receiving! No insults or bad language will ever emanate from me merely a considered response.
