I was just asking, as the Pist. del Olot is right here in Spain, everyone is discussing gun crime in Manchester, Brixton etc, but noone seems to give a stuff what happens on their own doorstep.

Not one person has made a comment about the 4 people killed, inculding the 2 cashiers in the CAM bank.

In case anyone might be interested, it was not a bank robbery, it was a guy who was upset because he had not been paid from his job............
That's because in many expat minds crime doesn't exist in Spain.

Not a lot of Spanish crime anyway, most of the murders are expat foreigners involved in drug gang wars.

Like someone else said earlier, it's a common occurrence here and not worth the mention

Very few, I'd guess, too busy trawling the Mail and the Sun looking for bad UK news!. I doubt many read the Spanish press, unless they are directly effected, chances are they haven't a clue what's going on.

It does make me wonder where the "fully intergrated" are and what they talk to their neighbours about if not the major news of the country.......

Coz our main topics of conversation in the street is the news.

Well it gives them the feel good factor to read what happens in places like Manchester and ignore all the crime in Spain....or any other country, they all have their no-go areas. Thought there would have been more discussion about the Kings son-in-Law being ordered to appear in court instead of what happened in the UK decades ago

Yeh, it's a total mystery to me as well.

I get the impression that those who have left the UK get great satisfaction out of trashing it, possibly to convince themselves and their pals that they've made the right move and I'm alright Jack.

To even further convince themselves I wonder if they ignore most of the regular daily crime in Spain ?

I don't think many of the Spanish share that opinion, most especially the old timers who often rant on that this could never have happened under Franco.

I've personally witnessed far more crimes in Spain than in the UK, but thats possibly down to the fact that my own locality when in the UK is reasonably crime free.
I often go out for an hour or two and don't worry about locking the door, yeh, stupid I suppose, there's always a first time.

When in Spain my place probably appears much the same as most others with a Fort Knox type of appearance and mentality.

If it ever gets to that stage in the UK then I would seriously question my motives for repeatedly returning there.

Yes, I agree, as Urdungarin is big serious news as well as the "prensa rosa".

But everyones is too hung up over the MPs and their expenses to worry about the ex golden boy.

9.30 on la sexta, if anyone is interested..........the whole sorry saga.

And if the Pisto de Olot had happened in the UK, it would have been a hot topic on this forum I bet.

My post on this (with the link about the case) has been on for a while but seems not have aroused no interest whatsoever.

I would like to know what the intergrated talk about with the Spanish neighbours?

My neighbors, even shop keepers, love to sit and chat about life in the UK more than anything else, it's an everyday thing with them here, I guess they think it's like another planet, a million miles from the way they live up here.

PS our tobaconist's son just came back from London, his opinion is, It's very dark in the UK.

My Spanish friends and neighbours are not heavily into after dinner chat.

Whether at their house or mine life carries on as normal with everyone mucking in doing something be it preparing food or whatever, they never seem to stay still for long and certainly not long enough to go on a forum day in day out and pour forth bilge on the ins and outs of a ducks arse as happens here.

When the topic of Le crisis surfaces they are pragmatic, none know the answer, none knows what the future will bring but by christ we all know what we are all going to say to the Alcalde or the president of our Urb next time we see them about things that affect our daily lives that at least we can try and do something about.

Nobody brags about buying tuppence worth of veg from a shite shop or pays 60 euros a year IBI or 800 a year UK council tax........... its almost embarrassing really to read it.

I have never experienced this constant bleating on about the same old same old in real life as on here anywhere in any country that I have lived in. I have looked on the other forums here and cant see it there either. As for having the front to tell total strangers to rent not buy based on fatuous patronising little nuggets of non-wisdom, I honestly do not think that you realise how ridiculous that is.
