Tell that to the family of the Indian student shot in the head in Salford a few days ago, for no apparent reason apart from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Talking about being in the wrong place at the wrong time, has anyone seen that Puig the pistolero de Olot, has got 60 years, but will only serve 25maximum, for going on a shooting spree.

For those who dont know the case, he was pissed off because he claims that his boss had not paid him, so he blasted him and his son in a restaurant, then went into the Cam bank and shot 2 cashiers.

he should be fed to the pigs.......

Plaza de Toros, blood in the sand? I haven't seen much of it.

At the time of the Brixton riots, a white supremist was murdered in an alleyway at Hackney, only a hundred yards from the police station. He had been stabbed many times and his penis had been cut off.

The post mortem revealed that his penis, a small one, had been stuffed in his mouth. It was obvious that the black power movement had carried out the attack, and the police had much intelligence on this small group.

Most of them lived in Brixton and both the Hackney and Brixton commanders had kittens in case the situation was inflamed further. It was solved by the Hackney snatch squad consisting of only black detectives, swooping at four in the morning.

The four murderers got life and the black power movement ceased to exist. And the white nonces stayed well clear of Hackney.

Lynn you are quite right that is the problem with these criminals running around trying to be big men with guns and knifes poor innocent people get caught up in their ignorance and brutality, that's why they need putting away for ever. Or off course they could go to Afghanistan and fight all they want but not brave enough for that are they?

Talking about evacuation, I came across this lot this morning. Not much has changed, has it?

totally forgotten by the majority of the nation within weeks of it happening.
that sort of thing doesn't truly happen in "our country", "yes it happens in Northern Ireland but what do you expect".
that feeling is still there, and thank you for reminding me of it, although even then sitting on a mole hill in lowly East Anglia it really meant nothing to me and I know I had forgotten about it.

From your comments I must assume my old belief that the police know far more than they react to, hold back in prosecuting for political reasons, is correct.
Knowledge is power - its how you use that power that matters.

I'll be sitting on a mole hill in East Anglia in a week's time and I'm praying it won't snow.

I just listened to Michael Heseltine on Sky News talking about the early eighties. Nothing, absolutely nothing has changed. Austerity after a spell of Socialist madness, and even the Falklands again with a much reduced Navy.

We appear to have learned nothing in the past 30 years.

The very fact that this was heavily reported in the UK press shows how uncommon gun crime on innocent victims is. If it was that commonplace it would not have been reported to a great extent.

Well, this was the second fatal shooting in that area since September 2011 when a 37 year old man was shot in a pub. It hasn't been mentioned in the press that he was a criminal or a gang member, although it was reported that following the shooting graffiti appeared all over the Ordsall estate warning people of the consequences if they gave any information to the police. Nice!

I wouldn't walk around that area at any time of the day or night, in fact I wouldn't even drive through it if I could help it, as there have been numerous cases of people's car windows being smashed and them being robbed at knifepoint, and car-jackings, whilst stopped at traffic lights. Unfortunately, this group of students, being visitors to the city, probably didn't know the risks.

The area is right next to Salford Quays where the new Media City development is - no wonder so many BBC staff were reluctant to move there, is it?

similar words by Churchill in 1937, 38, 39 before someone proved him right.

ISTR a) the foto of the RAF assembled all in one field.
b) the last time the RN had a Fleet Review it was padded out with representatives from many other nations to make it worthwhile putting the queens barge from the jetty. Now even that barge has been sold for a small bit of silver.

The UK is no longer the world player some people trapped in a time loop in the FCO seem to think it is. The UK punches far above its weight, that punch is getting weaker.

To me that is true but makes no difference one is too many innocent people to die. There is no deterrent that's the problem. If they are not willing to despatch this sort of mindless criminal when convicted then they should be put away for life and not pandered to as if they were visitors in a hotel.

whilst not disagreeing, having lived 18m in Manchester,
Washington, the home of the US president, the marvellous views frozen in the mind from endless movies, has one of the worst slum areas in the US, right next door to the president.

Cape Town used to have Sector 6 right next to all of the poshest houses in SA, so they moved it all out to the new townships and called it Soweto.

well said, but it has now become a right of passage to many in our society to have been in prison, done the time.
you realise that the fluffy bunny brigade would go loopy at the thought of life without parole, of time inside without television, access to the internet, education far superior to that the kids of the people they kill could ever hope for now.

perhaps we could find them an island to put them on ??

BTW does nobody here have any interest in the Spanish news?

I was just asking, as the Pist. del Olot is right here in Spain, everyone is discussing gun crime in Manchester, Brixton etc, but noone seems to give a stuff what happens on their own doorstep.

Not one person has made a comment about the 4 people killed, inculding the 2 cashiers in the CAM bank.

In case anyone might be interested, it was not a bank robbery, it was a guy who was upset because he had not been paid from his job............
