Well it wasn't in the dictionary when I first looked but found it in the latin one..

aliquantus : (adj.) of some size, moderate.

Seriously though.
I do sometimes find it slightly annoying, that some adult, native English speakers, don't know the difference between.
Their-there, quite-quiet and knew- new etc.

That was brilliant, thanks for all the effort that went into this hilarious post.

Seriously folks, I wasn't being elitist and sorry if some toes felt stepped on. I do, however, stand by what I said. It hurts to see the language misused. I've enjoyed all the posts - hope you have too!

"There were three men. A wise man, a scribe and a fool. The wise man listened to the fool and became wiser. The fool listened to the wise man and became wise. The scribe fawned over the wise man, castigated the fool and became a fool." Anon.

I have always tried to work on the premise that there is something I can learn from everyone on the planet if I try to take the time and trouble.

Unfortunately I dont always practise this and so remain a trying fool.

regards
Jim

Lol...clever!! Xenophobic, but possibly with a smidgeon of truth.

Spelling is either something one can or cannot do;it does not denote any particular level of intelligence. If one reads a great deal, then one can develop a photographic reminder of what is correct.
I would rather have a lively and original point of view than a dull but perfectly spelt and composed one.
A beautiful rendition of any languge is a pleasure;be it English, French, Spanish, Hindi or Xhosa (the African 'click' language). However it tends to be about class and snobbery most of the time.
As an' upper class' friend pointed out to me once..'oh don't say serviette, it's too American and middle class..the word is napkin'
