Re: British standards ???

Far be it for the likes of me to make comment on education standards in the UK, but circa 15 years ago the head teacher of a large local comprehensive school was marched to his car by school inspectors and told never to darken their doorstep again.

Apparently he had been getting the school's funds mixed up with his, nothing else was said, the police were not involved and he retired on an early enhanced pension. I further understand that post WW11 no more than 30 teachers/headteachers have been dismissed for gross incompetence.

Good work when you can get it, or not as I see matters.

you surprise me it is so few, although I know of one who was sacked for grooming girls in their early teens, think he was 22 at the time
but what about those who have overseen their "work" for a number of years, even giving them above average pay rises and promotion ?

and we talk about Jobs for Life
but understand that is the case for teachers in Spain, they may be taken on for a contract period of say one year, but if they are put on to a permanent contract they are made for life and cannot be sacked.

We had a metalwork teacher who shortly after his appointment was jailed for playing with boys at his previous school.

He did 18 months and then came back to teach us :)

He was a bloody good teacher, however he didn't like his nickname

Bummer

at least he wasn't in charge of Sports
our headmaster used to come round the boys changing rooms at shower time after a hard game of football, just to make sure we cleaned ourselves properly
most definitely wouldn't be allowed to happen nowadays, we were much more naive in those days
:(

The girls PE teacher at my school had a habit of walking through the boy's changing room at shower time. We stood to attention for her, other than for one boy, I wonder what became of him.

Likewise in my senior school

However it was only the more mature boys that stood to attention ;)

If parents really want to have their own fantasies indoctrinated into their children, they should at least pay for it themselves, not have the rest of us who are largely not of their inclination pay for it.

Like in Spain? Watched this last night, part way through where they get onto schools, the Catholic religion still has a huge influence, not to mention their privileged position.

My wife was taught by nuns, she's wasn't impressed, we started school in 1951 and 1952 respectively, when anything went punishment wise, I don't suppose that much had changed since Victorian times. I actually stopped being scared and smiled and thanked them for the gratuitous violence that they inflicted on me, they then stopped and picked on someone else.

Derby's Al-Madinah School: Trust staff still dishing out advice

SENIOR staff from a successful foundation trust are still visiting a failing Derby free school to offer help and advice.

The Government asked the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust to step in to assist Al-Madinah School, which was placed in special measures by education inspectors from Ofsted – Office for Standards in Education – in October last year.

Although Greenwood trust chief executive Barry Day has already indicated he would not want to take the city school on full-time because of Al-Madinah’s financial problems, he did send a number of senior staff to work there.

He also wrote a plan for the Muslim school, which has two sites in the city – at Friar Gate and Nelson Street.

considering how much is actually made of the contribution to science and education by the Muslim faith surely it is an embarrassment to be found to not conform ??

but then they are being asked to conform to a set of rules and standards that were not made by them but by infidels - so who wants to lower their standards ??

Founding trustees resign from Derby's Al-Madinah Muslim faith free school

THE founding trustees who set up Derby’s first faith free school have resigned following damning reports about the school and their role in running it.

Their departure is likely to herald the start of changes at the Muslim free school, including the relocation of the primary section of the school from Friar Gate.

As of midnight last night, trustees Shazia Parveen, Shahban Rehmat and Ziad Amjad were no longer in charge of Al-Madinah School, which opened in September 2012.

Despite a further monitoring inspection by the Office for Standards in Education, which showed school standards had slipped even further, the trustees remained in place until a final deadline was given by Lord Nash to leave.

We really stretched ourselves financial wise to buy a house in an area with good schools. Actually the system in place was to bus in Asian kids from really poor areas miles away from the school. Anyone whatever their gender has the right to do what we did, however none Asian kids were not bussed in and had to make do with far poorer schools.
