Three trustees resign from Derby's Al-Madinah School

THREE trustees of Derby’s failing Muslim free school Al-Madinah have told the Government today they are resigning.

Trustees Shazia Parveen, Shahban Rehmat and Ziad Amjad had come under increasing pressure in recent weeks to quit their roles at Al-Madinah School.

Their resignation paves the way for a sponsor to be brought in to run the school and Schools Minister Lord Nash has today asked the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust to explore the possibility of stepping in.

The resignations are unlikely to come into effect until the end of January, with the likelihood that if Greenwood decides to go ahead, it would do so from February 1.

A SECOND damning report on Derby’s failing Muslim free school is expected to say that no progress has been made in the past few weeks since it was placed in special measures.

There was also another report yesterday that was very critical of the standards of education across the entire so called " Free School " network.
It is a failed concept.

Quite right too. Lets get back to the time when only the wealthy can afford to send their kids to school. Keep those oiks in their place.

I don't see anything wrong with the concept of free schools. What I don't like is when they are set up based on a one religion. I include all religions, Muslim, Catholic, Jewish whatever.

We have alwasy had Catholic schools, C of E, Quaker etc, it should be the level of education that matters not any religious focus.

Religious schools are divisive. There should be no place for religious indoctrination or prejudice in education.

So you would close down some of the best schools in the UK then.?
It should only be about good or bad schools , nothing more than that.

No - I would make them all go private. If parents really want to have their own fantasies indoctrinated into their children, they should at least pay for it themselves, not have the rest of us who are largely not of their inclination pay for it.

There do seem to be some dodgy ones being set up under this new programme, though - like this one, which has nothing to do with religion of any kind:-
