if it is possible to have a woman Rabbi - the first was ordained in 1935 in Germany, it became a regular thing in the 1970's USA then it is possible to have women priests and imams - eventually
As the Hebrew religion is something like 3761 years older than Christianity and the Muslim religion about 600 years younger than Christianity perhaps it will be a long while before we see any major changes

Some religions treat women as less than second class.

The tread is about British standards, and in Britian women have equality under UK law.
However there is a group of women who don´t have equality. those that are under islamic law.
So I think that my points are perfectly valid, as I am not discussing how muslim women are treated in Iran only in the UK.

All that some people are objecting to is your sweeping generalizations about "Muslims". Clearly not all "Muslims" practice the faith to the letter and certainly only some are brutal, just as not all Christians force their wives to obey them and beat them as the Bible indicates. Equally, there is a vast amount of oppression and violence inflicted on women daily all over the world by those who claim no religion at all, so it is not a valid argument to simply draw a line around oppression afflicted by "Muslims" and then say "Muslims oppress women", and does a disservice to the rights of women as a whole.

ISTR that Jesus said "let ye who is without fault cast the first stone" (IIRC)
that is in the New Testament of the Bible, some 800 years before Mohammed and the start of the Muslim religion - which recognises Jesus as a Prophet.
The New Testament also shows in the Acts of the Apostles that women play a key part in religion and what happened in a few short years.

It sort of puts a damper on my theories

No I wasn't actually, I am one of the few people who actively encourages thread drift, it's how normal conversations work and the best way to get a thread lasting longer... what I do object to is the way things have to get so personal all the time. That's what kills threads.

I wasn't actually making the claim that women can't be Rabbis, it was more the point that women in all faiths and of all creeds face discrimination and intolerance... I am just unsure as to why it's just Islam that is being targeted by a handful of posters on here... as it always is.
Hopefully all i have done is broaden the matter a little, as CO and Islam will not allow women priests or teachers of the faith.
But then who would have thought that Henry VIII would have started the Church of England - truely heresy back in those days, for which he was excommunicated IIRC.
However that is how religion evolves, albeit more slowly than the Instant Communications of today's busy world. Similar happened later in the UK with the Wesley brothers in the 1700's who founded Methodism, which then was picked up by the American black's and became the basis of their religion.
I am sure many would not be happy to realise how much the UK has been an influence in the spread of religion and fostering the splinter groups that provide religion to many.
So far as i am concerned if religion is what floats your boat, keeps you on the straight and narrow, provides you with the support you feel you need, then it doesn't matter what its name is.
However, it could be the time for Islam to stop using certain horrific means of keeping the people down - this went out of fashion with the Spanish Inquisition.
