When i went to the local office to apply for this benefit I was told that I was not classed as a single parent How much more of a single parent could I be, as I stood at the desk receiving my reply an elderly asian couple were standing in the next que, They were taking receipt of a cheque valued at well over a thousand pounds to assit them in a return to there homeland for a funeral . The irony of that encounter was that I a young woman that had just had to use all her savings on burying her husband was refused free school meals for her child as she was not classed as a single parent.
The system in the UK has been flawed for many years and it has taken this long for ppl to start complaining I decided from that say I would never demean my self to ask again. No one asks to be a single parent it is just a circumstance some of us find our selves in. |

The irony being that in relocating to another country - you have effectivley become the immigrantee. Yes, I fully understand that part.
I, like I imagine a lot of people, have conditionally no problems whatsoever with two of the issues I raised earleir. Those being Immigrants and Teenage Single Mothers. Those conditions being: The Immigrant: Finds work. Sustains himself and his family. Pays for what he uses. Looks after any property that he is provided with if he cannot afford to buy his own. The Teenage Single Mother: Can adequately support herself and her child (within reason and with assistance from the natural father). Pays for what she uses. Looks after any property that she is provided with if she cannot afford to buy her own. Simple! |

Your case is much different. And tremendously sad at that. Of course, not everyone chooses to be a Single Parent. In fact I was one myself for 4 months and thought I was going to be permanantly at the time after my ex-wife buggered off with my then best mate (I actually still consider him to be my best mate although I haven't seen him for almost 20 years. The years of torment he unwittingly saved me from....). My gripe is with those who don't help themselves through choice.
I to am now an immigrant in a different country here are no state hand outs for me ....not that I would want any ........ I like you believe in looking after your self, the thing is in spain it is more well fair I dont see my taxes paying vast sums of money to other ppl who dont help them selves as I said in an early post about the Spaced out Spanish guy in the que at the airport, The UK gave him a flat for free LOL where in the civilised world would that happen except in good old UK |

I'm lucky enough to have made enough money and have obtained an index-linked pension that'll see me and my family through our relocation for the rest of my life at least. My children's children may never come to the UK and will be naturalised Portuguese (I'm not going to Spain incidentally). I'll never have to work again once I stop. But for some that might be unthinkable. Sitting around all day with no need for a job:thumbup: But, I couldn't afford what I'd consider to be a decent lifestyle if I stayed in the UK and didn't work. My money will simply go further when I move abroad. It's one of the obvious reasons to do it. |

My point to derby flan many ppl expect and often get in the UK state hand outs, it the good old tax payers that fork out the money to provide for them.
