But for us parents it's the same as being in the uk - work, kids, homework, work, kids, homework.
There are many downsides to life in Spain and some real good points to living in the UK. The weather is the obvious one.

which is pretty much what I said - better for the kids but not so very much different on a daily basis - for us as working parents - than in the UK

Its a balanced view ....... obviously many people like it here otherwise they wouldn't stay, but what they are saying is .... don't think that Spain will answer all your problems, and they are pointing out the negatives. How would you feel if everyone told you its all sweetness and light over here, and when you got here you found it wasn't ... would you be p!ssed off? I bet you would.

So just take all the info in (after all I assume you are here to hear about Spain from people who live here) and take a balanced view of everything you see ;)

Right you lot! I've had enough of reading this cackka!

Here it is, as I see it, plain and simple.

The UK. Matt said in an earlier post when responding to Big Pete that people aren't necessarily bothered about immigration in the UK.
This view does not reflect my own observations. Immigration is a huge problem here. Compounded in three main areas:

1. The rise in Islamic Terrorist incidents.
2. The housing shortage - particularly affecting first time buyers.
3. Labour charges being undercut.

I'd suggest that many people are reluctant to air their concerns regarding immigration because it's 'unfashionable' to do so. After all, you wouldn't want to be labelled as a racist now, would you? Indeed, in October of last year it became a criminal act to behave discriminately toward a group of people because of their religious belief. Despite them causing the deaths of 50+ commuters in London a couple of years ago.

Successive cases of Governmental sleaze, involvement in wars that nobody wants, a non-elected Prime Minister, continual hikes in taxes and restrictions what Big Pete would describe as his freedom to enjoy a smoke are all playing their part in making people re-consider their future in the UK.

The Social Security system continues to support the highest European rate of teenage pregnancy out of taxpayer's contributions. Providing for very young single mothers whilst giving them accommodation and further cash incentives to spew out more 'bastard' children. Immigrant workers who qualify for child benefit allowance (even though their children have not set foot out of Poland since the father has been working in Britain?). Job-seekers allowance to those who prefer to seek a job via the Trisha show. The CSA was such a disaster that it has now been disbanded after having millions of public money wasted on it - only to be replaced by the same organisation with a different name. Where an old war widow who my wife visits once a week is made to pay a full council tax contribution but the Asian family living in the same block of flats are not required to pay at all.

The NHS. 'A service for all' is really is on its arse. Where Cancer patients 'win' treatment via a postcode lottery rather than by need in some cases. Maternity units where children are actually dying as a direct result of the shortage of Midwives.

Prisons so overcrowded that the Home Office is releasing so-called non-violent offenders early. Non-violent because the criminal act that brought about their conviction didn't (this time) result in the death or near-death of their victim/s. Unknown - literally - UNKNOWN numbers of illegal criminal immigrants that never quite made it to Jail and are now living at large. Care in the Community = failure. Register of Sex Offenders = failure. Reform of Prisoners = failure. Paedophiles being told by Judges to buy their victim "a nice bike" to get over their attack.

Shit weather and hose pipe bans. Costly education. And Fearn fri&&in Cotton!

All reasons to seek paradise elsewhere. An elsewhere where you support yourself, abide by the rules of your host country and get back more of what you put in. Be that Spain, Portugal, Cyprus or America. Anywhere better than here!

On a final note. I don't hate my country. I just hate what my country has become. Good luck to anyone whose contemplating the move. And good luck to those of you already there.

Oh! And PJJ. I'm guessing you're a bloke in his twenties/early thirties right? Listen to what's being said by those of us who have lived outside of this country before. Listen especially closely to those posters that are living in the very same country in which you want to reside. Their information is priceless Son.

i agree with your comments totally derby flan
Just think about this
Two weeks ago I was standing in the line to board the plane to come home to spain with my son A very unusual looking spanish guy and his partner stood behind us............. He looked totally spaced out .......... He asked us where we lived, .........I told him in Spain ......He told me he couldnt afford to live in Seville as it cost him all her earned to rent a house ,,,,But he could live in London as they gave him a flat to live in and money to live on .............he had no rent to pay ...................I told him we had to buy our house in spain and we had to pay health care .......... I also told him that we had left Brittain because of the taxes we had to pay and the stupidity of the wealth fare state .....I then told him I was glad he was using my taxes well ........And left it at that ....

Wow, what a sweeping comment. I was once one of those teenage mums who the tax payer supported for the first 2 years of me being a teenage mum many years ago, I am flabbergasted that my child would still be labelled a bastard.
Despite what people think, life as a teenage mother is the hardest thing i've ever done in my life, rather than the easiest as many think it is, and the fathers who abandon these children still dont take any blame for it!
