Nearly every day Pete. I used to cycle there every day. I agree I wouldn't be doing it now.
I lived in the country Pete .... we didn't have traffic jams ;)
As I said earlier, your view is tempered by where you live, and you live in the overcrowded South.

I remember the bad things as well. They are part of the reason I moved here, but that doesn't mean I have to hate my country of Birth, where I was bought up, did my business, and the country that through that business eventually gave me the funds that allowed me to retire at the age of 52.

ok good post Mitzy night now

The at times blatant animal cruelty.

The somewhat bizarre situation regarding the Valencia Land Grab laws, directly defying the EU.

Wow if i was Mitzy and jdr i would get out quick !!

How come they havent reported a urgency to get back to the Uk and buy a place with a couple of sheds in Slough Matt ?

I think UK is convenient, trouble with this country everyone is so negative about their own country. Going round talking about how bad their country is, how its getting worse instead of acting. Do you ever hear of anything good happening in the news?

I hate the country its finished gone to the dogs ..
If it was half reasonable i would stay but its just got worse and worse and its to late now..

The only way the country is going to go is further downwards , past the point of no return .

Sad it is infact sometimes i get angry when i see stuff thats going on here in the land i was born !!

I´m with you Pete. I´m a UK hater and I´m ashamed of my nationality most of the time (which I intend to change at some point). I have a whole list of reasons why I left the UK which can probably all be summarised under the general heading of 'disillusionment'. I´ve said it before, but if it all goes tits up for me here in Spain then there is a whole world full of other countries for me to try before having to go back to the UK.

and that was my point all along Lynn, but some people read what they want to read and always pick up on the negatives.

I wish sometimes people would read some of the trials and tribulations of the people on this forum, and the ironic thing was thats as Pete was posting about how perfect Spain is, Mitzy was discussing Telefonica on another thread!

it's the rose tinted glasses again, isn't it?

it doesn't matter how many years you have been going somewhere on holiday, you can never know what it's like to actually live & work there

for me, it's just like living & working in the UK, for my dh, he found it easier there & in the US

but we agree that the children have a better life here, regardless of the problems, so we are staying (for now)

if it was just the two of us without the kids, I wouldn't be surprised if we had headed back to the US, until we had enough dosh to come back here & retire

I actually thought that the discussion was done with when I said the same thing, then I got accused of saying he would fail.

Some people just dont read my posts, I think a long break is definately on the cards!

I agree, and it is sometimes the worse thing to do to come on holiday and get all enamored with the place, the people are nice, the weather is nice, everything is so cheap compared to the prices back home and when you have the buying power of the pound.

But hey ho, cant wait till he has to deal with belligerent leccy/ telephone/ bank/ town hall officials, the attitude may have to be dropped then.

That said people, I like Pete, I find him an entertaining bloke, I just don't share his hatred and vitriol about Britain, so don't condemn me as a Pete hater OK??!!

Thats what we need a balanced view,we are all striving for "better quality of life" I know I do not live in spain and I hope that the origanal post was for all(otherwise I shouldnt be here:o)I think its all about balence trying your best to make life good.We love it here(france) but we pay the price ,to enable us to stay here my OH works in uk,until we have paid for the house. We agreed from the begining it would not be easy ,but we love where we live and aggreed (whatever it takes).I am building up my work this side to try and take some of the weight off his shoulders and together hopefully in about 2yrs he will stop commuting. But we had to be realistic. When he comes home we are like a couple kids. But even with the heartache of missing eachother we defenatly have a "better quality of life".Thank heavens for internet ect.for keeping in touch with kids ect. Il stop waffling now:wub:xxxxP.S.I for one am really glad you guys are all out there:wub:

PPS I love living here

Thats a view I just cannot understand .... something very bad must have happened to you KW. I can't see disallusion being such a valid reason for hating a country so much you want to lose your nationality. I'm proud of being British and always will be. Its overall a great country. Its got its down sides yes, but so has Spain.

Break .... don't be silly :)
We all like Pete .... just because he's wrong :D and is disagreed with doesn't mean you're a Pete hater, nor are any of us
