Hi Diddy Di,
bchapl stands for the first letter of my name and part of my surname, but my name is Beverley. We live in Hullbridge, which is near to Southend, although we're actually closer to Chelmsford. Whereabouts in Southend did you live? I spent many a decadent year (in my mispent youth) in Westcliff (which is when I picked up the art of the hangover)!
Are you planning to move to Hondon? We have bought a house there but don't plan to leave the UK yet (can afford the house but don't have the money to live comfortably in it without working)!
We hope to set up a business of some kind, but we're very wary as so many expats on this forum (and others who I have spoken to) tend to warn of the problems of finding work in Spain. I am a qualified Dr. of Sociology, but, frankly, that means nothing in Spain without fluent Spanish! I'm having weekly lessons and it's going well, but I've a way to go before fluency, to be honest. I may teach English, but, again, I'm not sure of the opportunities which exist in the Alicante region - whenever I've visited it seems there are many would-be teachers of English!
So, we're staying put for now, and we work here in the UK and wait for our visits to Hondon to refresh us! Can't wait to come over again (in early Jan).
Hope to hear from you soon,
Bev.

1 Emergency appointment
1 Emergency injection
1 Follow-up appointment
1 Follow-up injection
Total cost? 15 euros...! There wouldn't have been much change from £100 at our last vets in the UK

I did some plumbing work for our vet and adjusted my bill to suit what he previously charge me, lol

You always can have bad luck, but, as a guarantee, any qualified Vet in Spain had to study a 5 years University degree (reduced to 4 years now). If you want to be sure that your vet is a fully fledged one, check in the "Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios" (professional association of vets) of the area you live. They will provide a listing with Vets registered.

I havn't logged on for a while but it seems there is more and more soon to be Hondon residents everytime I look. I will be over there at the weekend and then for the half term and easter holidays. We are having to rent though as the builder still can't provide the Nota Simple. That said our agents are trying to get Contrimar to let us stay in the villa as it is already fully furnished and it is their fault we havn't completed. That should be interesting!

Gilbey - One thing I probably wouldn't recommend is moving in before the legals have been done. This is a big legal minefield... aside from which the house will probably not have a habitation licence. Being on a 'construction' supply is no fun - dirty water (or no water at all) and electricity which is shared with the nearby cranes and cement mixers and guarranteed to destroy any electronic equipment plugged into it.
If your solicitor is any good, they'll not recommend you proceed until all this is sorted out.

Hi Gilbey and everyone,
I have to agree with Twyntub here, don't proceed until all the paperwork has been signed! If you look at the earlier part of this thread, you'll see the problems that my OH and I had completing - five completion dates in all, BUT our lawyer advised us NOT to complete prior to everything being signed and sealed (the builder wanted to provide a generator until such time as the electricity was connected). We took our lawyer's advice - after all, once you're in there why should Contrimar rush to get the Nota Simple? Luckily, since we have a mortgage, the bank would not allow us to complete either! It's frustrating, I know, but we are so glad that we waited!
All the best,
bchapl

This is not unusual. There are a few things Contrimar are very slow at... getting habitation licences, mains electricity and town water being just three examples.
