I live near Hondon and have friends on the Oasis development - some call it 'Valley of the Vines' - I think it depends which agent markets it. The place is cold in winter and very very windy - BUT summers are joy - beautiful scenic views, watching nature grow, mountains you can drive up or climb, great walks and very relaxed (when builder boy is not about), the locals are so helpful and friendly - definitely the place to be inland and you don't want the holiday 'English Abroad' mentality. You NEED a car though, good shops are a distance away.
But be careful of agents - I could write a book on things I have seen and heard - but it's rife across Spain, not just Costa Blanca. Where's there is lots of money to be made there are 'tactics' from builders, agents and odd-job men - However I am a great believer in that no-one can force you to buy a house - you KNOW when it's right for you - if you get that buzz then buy !!! And for every horror story you hear there are many happy ex-pats in Blanca. Just try have common sense, be ascertive and you'll minimise the chances of being ripped off.
Do your homework - look for an agent who offers guarantees, get independent solicitor. We tried a few agents but found MedSea Estates ( a UK co. based in Europe) very good, the rep was excellent. But I know now that reps come good and bad, new and experienced... it would be nice if they were all good like ours (Can I recommend her by name - she live near Oasis so knows alot about it ?)
As far as I know they have the ISO9001 acred' and have strict policy of only selling property with ALL the paperwork in place. Others will sell anything and let YOU pick up the pieces later.
Finally, my advice where ever you buy is SHOP AROUND for anything as there are masses of differences in price - AND DON'T buy from the first person who knocks on your door - however friendly ! (and I bet they are English) - Good Luck

Shar...
It is a good deal however i think prices will continue to drop over the next 12 to 18 months.
It's a mine field really...you hear so many stories about people getting ripped off.
What do you think?

To what extent are mosquitoes a problem in summer in the area?

I agree and its really not necessary you can still earn a living without doing this, but you are right it is a minefield, its not just Location Location Location its Research Research Research and be honest and realistic with yourself if you need to earn a living here! especially without a good knowledge of the language. I can go an on and I do, often but in thats it in a nutshell, also reccomendations as to who you deal with.
Prices will almost definitley come down but whats new there, there are always peaks and troughs in the property market both here and in every country, its just the way the ecconomy works and hopefully this will give people that are now undecided the confidence to buy again!

PS Hattiejaques ...
dont have a problem with mosquitos where we live and as far as I know in Hondon, I am not saying there are non, of course there are, but so few we dont really think about it until we get bitten which is seldom. I believe they like the dusk, but we sit out all night without problem.

Shar.....
I'm just looking for a holiday home for the family. Somewhere I can spend 6 weeks of the year and where my family and friends can use it also.

I have a copy of a batch of Habitation certificates if anyone wants to know if their property is on it, just send me a PM with both numbers plot and house and I will let you know. Water meters are being placed in the nest few weeks and electric on to owner supply is also imminent.

If anyone has bought or is buying from Contrimar could you advise what fee they are charging for builders electricity and water supply. They are attempting to charge me 1000 Euro,is this normal?

It's a rip off and present residents are fighting for refunds. Most pay it because they want to get in their house.
Other builders charge a lot less we paid €500 for Leccy, water + we have had 'free' water for 2 years +. Also it's worth noting that Agua Valencia (Water Board) are taking control of the water (or have) - they have been seen putting in water meters in habituated properties on Montanosa recently so I hear.
Be careful, because you could pay your 1000 and find that withion a few months you are liable for another bill from the Water Board.
