Re: ACCA qualified - prospects in USA? + CMA exam?

I'm an accountant, a CPA. Although the CMA is fine, I don't think you should do it if you really don't want to. I hardly (have never) seen CMA listed as a requirement on a job posting. It's typically...

Re: Schools in Orange County, CA

Generally speaking, public education is to start at age 5 in kindergarten. That is when public school starts. Like I mentioned though, some areas have public preschool. For example, New York City...

Re: Schools in Orange County, CA

What age? Most places don't have public nurseries. Some areas do starting at age 4. Generally though, if you're asking about education before age 4, then it's private.

Re: Schools in Orange County, CA

Just as an FYI, private schools don't have in state or out of state tuition as they are not public schools. Each student is charged the same tuition. A student from MA (where Harvard is) and one from...

Re: L1A to Green card snag?

It doesn't really matter that you came in on an L1B and are now on L1A. People have been on different visas ranging from F1 to H1 to J1 to Li and still manage to get green cards. All that matters is...

Re: L2/F1/Green Card Connundrum

OPT is after study, but there's CPT while studying. It does deduct from the number of months of your OPT I believe. Also you need to get credit for the CPT if I'm not mistaken. My sister did that but...

Re: L2/F1/Green Card Connundrum

I think I'd go for the F1 in her case then.
FYI, I don't really think the green card process would take only 10 -12 months from start to finish. I guess it depends on what category your work is...

Re: L2/F1/Green Card Connundrum

My siblings both got F1 visas, while their family based green card process was still pending. That's not necessarily an issue.

Can she work on an L2 EAD? I know spouses can, just wondering about...

Re: H1-B to Greencard

We've gone through that route and no did not have to apply for our jobs. The job was posted and there was recruitment done for it as that's part of the process, but we didn't actually have to apply...

Re: American Express Global Transfer = SUCCESS

This worked for us as well when we moved to the London from NYC in 2014. We had a Delta Amex and once we got to London, my husband called and was able to get us a British Airways Amex right away. We...

Re: Annual leave / vacation time US

I have 20 vacation days. I worked in the UK for the same company and think I had 25 days. I can't remember.

Re: Relocation - UK to Connecticut (Fairfield County)

To be fair though, $300K would be enough to live a comfortable life. You are the one choosing very expensive locations and a 5 bedroom house in CT (or did I read that wrong)? Maybe look at smaller...

Re: Move to New York or Sydney?

I was just in Sydney in December and really enjoyed it. It seems to me to be a fine place to live (but I was obviously just a visitor). The main issue is the distance. You might think it doesn't...

Re: Advice on studying a Masters in USA.

Let me start by saying that I'm not saying you're wrong or that any one system is better that the other. What I've been constantly told, specific to Nigerians who went to university in the US vs. the...

Re: Green Card Process - I-485 Interview

The thing is apparently interviews have always been part of the employment based green card process but had pretty much been waived for years now. I do think it's rather silly that they've made it...

Re: Green card WAITING - I-140 APPROVED BUT no progress since

When exactly was the I-485 filed? What do you mean by resetting the time? A family friend's I-485 was filed in January 2017 and is still pending. Ours was filed the same month and luckily was...

Re: Permanent move from UK to USA

How I miss Tesco Express!
While it's true that most/many? things in NJ involve a car, I doubt that they'll be driving more than they did in the UK.

Re: L-1B Visa and 'local' labor market

I believe it can be used for different job roles. My understanding is that the blanket L is used so that the employer does not have to prove eligibility each time it wants to send an individual to...

Re: L1a and L2 question

Hi! Just checking because you didn't mention it, have you applied for your Employment Authorization Document (EAD card)? On an L2, you need the card before you can actually start working.

Re: Pregnant + very confused - any advice appreciated

Interesting points by everyone! For me, I don't remember getting separate or any bills in NYC in 2013 and I did get an epidural. Most (all) of my costs were covered by insurance, thankfully. I did...

Re: Pregnant + very confused - any advice appreciated

As you do your research, also check what hospitals the OBs you find have admitting privileges. That is where the delivery will take place. If you're in Brooklyn for example, you might not want to go...
