Re: POINT COOK

Hi Janette

We currently live in Altona and will be moving to Point Cook at the weekend. We've been living in Altona for the past 18 months, and have no real complaints about it, but decided that...

Re: Living in Melbourne

We live in the west, and definately think its worth a look at. The house prices are much more affordable and the newer deveopments are not so far out of the city as in the East. We currently live...

Re: Bacchus Marsh - Melbourne Victoria

Around 35 minutes or so in the car, possibly a little longer (I was judging it to Altona), but definately under an hour. The Deer Park by-pass has recently opened and cuts the travel time down, no...

Re: Bacchus Marsh - Melbourne Victoria

We were in that neck of the woods a few weeks ago. Its a nice area, but the only bit of useful information I can give you is that the Deer Park by-pass is now open and has cut the journey time into...

Re: Asbestos fencing?????

The Environmental Protection Agency can give you a list of places in your local area (and I think your local Counsel as well). We have asbestos outside our house and it cost us $50 to get it tested...

Re: Asbestos fencing?????

I hope not. Obviously you have never seen what inhaling asbestos dust can do to a person.

Re: 2007 to 2009 Arrivers in Australia **Please Read**

We arrived in February 2008, love it here and could not imagine moving back to UK (where I am from) or Ireland where OH is from.

Re: Do you feel safe walking at night in Melbourne?

Yes. But I suppose it depends on where you are walking. The suburb I live in is fine. But there are other areas I would think twice about walking in at night, but you could say that about any city.

Re: The dog?

We used Ladyhaye who arranged all the flights, but we had to do all the paperwork, arrange all the blood tests etc. They flew from Dublin to Heathrow, stayed overnight in Heathrow quarantine and...

I've lived in UK, Ireland and now Australia, and after getting over the initial nerves of driving around a city again (Melbourne) I can't say I find the drivers all that bad, sure there are some...

Re: Where to buy a house Melbourne

No, thats for a second hand house, and thinking about it you would probably need a price range of $400,000 to $450,000. Pretty much all new build houses in Altona are town houses unless somebody has...

Re: Where to buy a house Melbourne

We live in Altona in the western suburbs, which is beachside. If you look at realestate.com.au you will probably pick up a decent sized house on the far side of Civic Parade for around $400,000...

Re: The dog?

We brought our two dogs with us from Ireland. It cost more to fly them here than us. The quarantine was the cheapest part, around $700 for two dogs, much cheaper than if we had to put them in...

Re: Pet travel insurance

I looked into it when we were bringing the dogs over from Ireland. In the end I didn't bother as it was expensive and didn't cover much at all I don't think it covered vet costs or death in transit....

Re: plastering jobs in victoria?

Hi there

From what I can figure out a lot of the plastering here in victoria is tape and jointing. We had never come across it until we came here. In Ireland all houses are wet plastered, with a...
