We have just found out we have got our visa and now I am worrying about all the things we have to do.

My hubby is a builder with more tools than I care to think about. How clean do they have to be I have read threads on here about people scrubbing their shoes clean so cleaning all his tools is going to be a nightmare.

Any help would be great

i,m a chippy and i just gave everything a dust over to get the sa dust off.light oil to all of them.i panicked a bit so gave away my trowels, shovel,plaster hawke.customs never even opened the boxes with them in,all they were interested in was xmas deccies

We have cleaned all ours with Jeyes fluid and then covered them in WD40 and then wrapped them in corrision proof bags. We sold / gave / threw / away all the really rusty / oily / dirt engrained ones. It has taken about 4 months of work to get to this stage. Guaranteed they won't be opened now!

Hubby went one step further. He was insistent on bringing every tool he owned so the really rusty one were met by the electric wire brush thing and then painted with metallic paint We had a gold hammerite spade for a while Didn't use Jeyes, just brushed, pressure washed, dried and WD40'd EVERYTHING.

My OH is a carpenter, he just washed off everything and made sure it was clean. It all got through fine, I don't even think they looked at it. They did look at the christmas decorations though, and a small wooden motorbike (which they wanted $400 to "treat" or $80 to "destroy" you can guess which option we chose

We spent ages cleaning work tools and garden tools with Jayes fluid, then also put some on them neat so that they still had their smell for AQIS.

As far as I can remeber they did not open work tools, but did open anything to do with garden, my fish tank and our snowman (a big plastic one that they opened to see if it had melted on the way).

But they did not open the boxes pot-pori or the dried flowers that the packers mistakenly packed!
