Re: Getting cooler <g>

Errol was from Tas, where it may well be cold (1c this morning when I left work at 7.30am!) but it's not wet, Hobart is the driest capital in Oz, along with Adelaide.

Beautiful here today, cold,...

Re: Australia - Try before you buy.......

Hey, give the woman a break!

Why do some posters feel the need to laugh at other people's misfortunes?

We all have our expectations when we come to Oz, otherwise we wouldn't be here, maybe they...

Re: Tasmania (continued!)

Hi

I like many things about...

Re: NHS - Is there an Australian equvalent for Healthcare?

Maybe I have misunderstood, I thought if you went to a bulk billing practice you had no upfront costs to pay at all.

Whereas I go to a non bulk billing practice and have to pay them, then go to...

Re: Schooling issue QLD/Brisbane

Hi

Can't comment on schooling in Qld but I have found it very different here in Tas.

As you said, it's hard to pin the teachers down on the actual curriculum and it appears very loose to me! My...

Re: NHS - Is there an Australian equvalent for Healthcare?

In effect yes, there is the standard Medicare levy of 1.5 % , then any additional costs when attending the GP, I can't find a bulk billing practice anywhere that will take on new patients so stuck...

Re: Tasmania (continued!)

Hi Effie

Don't let other people's comments bother you, they can be a sharp lot out there at times! I have asked for advice on mayn things over the last couple of years and just sift though the...

We should get it by 2011, they reckon.

Re: Say something nice about Australia!!

Going for a hike up the Hartz Peak Mountain (Tas) on a glorious warm Autumn day, feeling like we were on top of the world, and then having a BBQ at a picnic shelter after, where the BBQ was spotless...

Re: Reasons for migration - push or pull?

Yep, agree with that. We never hated the UK and still think it has lots of good points, didn't think Oz was utopia, just wanted to push ourselves out of that comfortable rut that we had settled into....

Re: Tasmania (continued!)

Hi Donna

Sorry to hear about your mum.

I am at the Hobart Private and I think that's the reason it's so very different, as you just do whatever the doctors want, each one has their own little...

Re: Things to do in Dubai

Very interesting and very disturbing.............

Probably shouldn't go there for 2 days and add to the pot of gold.

Can sadly think of many other holiday destinations around the world where...

Re: online shopping for Next coming to Sydney

Take comfort in that Tasmania won't be getting one either!!

We don't have 2 decent shops to rub together, still at least I'm getting plenty of wear out of my clothes that came out with us.

Re: Education: Australia's great leap forward.

So why haven't the AEU suggested anything better years ago?

I do agree to some extent, statistics only show part of the picture but at the moment parents have very little to go on.

Re: Health service in Australia

I hear what you are saying there. In the UK any hospital admissions for a child are automatically notified to your GP and your health visitor, this is just one way of ensuring that children who are...
