Re: Citizenship Application Timeline

Reached journey's end last Friday when my family & I became Canadians. So only a month between the test and the ceremony, which I guess isn't bad compared to some.

Our only issue now is that...

Re: Citizenship Application Timeline

Finally got our invitation to the ceremony. So if anyone's interested, our timeline was - mailed documents April 2017, received by CIC May 10, receipt acknowledged June 20, processing started June...

Re: Over 40- has anyone immigrated this late?

I know nothing about teaching but my wife & I did immigrate here in our early 40's without jobs ready to come to. We were both professionals and while I found work in IT project management relatively...

Re: Transfer from VHS tapes (or play them)

I have quite a few old VHS-C tapes which I wanted to store on the PC rather than watch on TV and I also have my old UK VHS player. The player is 220v, so needs a step-down transformer rather than...

Re: Citizenship Application Timeline

I got a request for fingerprints last week. Got them taken yesterday at the local Peel Police division - hopefully it won't delay the process too long.

Re: QROPS - Well that's that then!

Don't know if the same rules still apply, but we transferred our pensions in 2013 into LIRAs. I called CRA and asked them how it should be shown on the 2014 returns and they told me it didn't need to...

Re: Yorkshire Tea

Tried that store a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately they claimed never to have heard of Swaledale so I'm still searching. But, on the positive side, they did have some terrific Cheddar &...

Re: For Oink biscuits and dunking explained.

According to the official rules of Tea Duelling, http://wyewaltz.org/wiki/Rules_of_Tea_Duelling as practiced in Steampunk & Chap circles, Rich Tea biscuits are the weapon of choice. Now there's a...

Re: How Northern are you?

I'm from the NW too and I came out as 98% Northern. Obviously the 20 years I lived in Hampshire didn't damage me too much!

I remember my Grandmother coming across to Manchester from her home in...

Re: Roast potatoes

Whites, par-boiled for 10 minutes then fluffed, and then into hot canola oil for 40 minutes at 400. I don't turn them. Nobody's complained yet.

Re: Shopping ...sad but true

Just returned from a week in Manchester visiting the parents. Thank God I managed to get a decent pair of shoes (brogues) from M&S at a reasonable price. The quality, choice & design in both M&S and...

Re: Travelling with an expired PR card...is this possible?

We had the same problem when we went back to Manchester for a visit in 2009 - we didn't realise the PR cards needed renewing until the week before we went (I know, p***-poor planning). So we took all...

Re: Britspeak

Saw this some time ago. I have a copy pinned to my office wall and have also sent it to my diverse (in country of origin) project teams so they know what I'm talking about!

Re: Driving and all that..

Does it matter in the UK? I'd heard that colour of car has been used in various studies but I don't think it's ever been a rating factor. Pretty sure that it isn't over here either.

Re: whats the food like in canada?

Now, I've tried Barking Squirrel and liked it. Normally I'll pick up some London Pride, ESB, Speckled Hen etc but our LCBO has been having a push on micro-breweries recently. Top of the pile for me...

Re: Supermarket

We DO have a Fortino's (at least 3 of them) in Brampton. Definitely the Waitrose end as regards prices (why would you pay $1.49/lb for potatoes here when you can get them at FreshCo for $0.99?) but...

Re: PR card expiring and out of country - advice please!

I don't think you can predict in advance whether they'll decide to mail it to you or ask you to pick it up. IIRC, I had to pick up my renewed card while my wife's was mailed (same address). I might...

Re: Yorkshire Tea

On the basis of this, I went out & picked up some Tetley Bold yesterday and...it was absolutely fine. I love my builder's tea but I think now I might even be able to stop asking UK visitors to bring...

Where did the time go?

Landed 10 years ago this month and have been in Brampton ever since. A few ups and downs on the way, a few sticky moments, but one gets through them. Children are happy, we're settled. Boring good...

Re: Citizenship Question

I asked the same question, but no, the PRC doesn't replace the immigration form for citizenship applications. It does for travel. We only found out once we'd had a spring clean of old 'useless'...
