Whiteman park is most probably the best for you two year old to get close to Kangaroos. My kids had a great time feeding them. http://www.whitemanpark.com.au Loads to do for the whole day.

I totally agree, furniture is expensive out in Oz, and the last thing you want to do when you get there is spend days shopping for furniture.
Sofa's, dinning tables\chairs and even flat pack...
