The word that I've noticed in particular being used in a different context is 'but'.

I believe it is used where 'we' (i.e. Brits) would normally use the word 'though'.

For example:

I'd definitely shop around and get as many quotes in as you can.
Prices do vary.
You have to take into account the crate size for your dog (bigger obviously getting more expensive), blood tests,...

Can you claim back tax for year ending 5th April 2009 if you are leaving the UK in the next month or so? (i.e. in the NEW tax year).
