Re: Britain's Mean Streets Article

I hardly even notice kids in NS - there are some rough'uns but they don't hang out in large groups.

Lat time I was in Nottingham a few years ago it was normal to see a group of at least 20+...

Re: self preservation

Just look very cross when walking around Toronto at night. A "Don't fook with me!" look on the face and people will avoid you.

I used to live in a dodgy bit, worked for me! Grrr.

Re: Nightmare interview.

I had a phone interview last year. It went very well, I even prepared for it by having prompt notes. Then I had had two more very positive interviews with the big boss and an offer to be flown down...

Re: Canadian Insurance company that accepts UK No Claims?

I don't know whether they are in Alberta but Aviva will accept UK no claims for car and house - they have to really, they are Norwich Union!

Re: DRIVING LICENCE DODGE !

I understand your point - why should you take a stupid, expensive and needless driving test when you already have a UK drivers's licence (and one that is accepted elsewhere in Canada!) Bahh.

Even...

Re: Derek and Clive

I was working for a very prestigious firm in downtown Toronto last year. The President called me into his office and said "You're English, aren't you! Have you heard this?" and played a Derek & Clive...

Re: How many of you are still unemployed in NS?

I got a job within 2 days of looking - and it pays as much as when I was doing the same job in downtown Toronto!

Re: Is it true that Canadians have no sense of humour?

Four pages into this thread and no-one has mentioned Trailer Park Boys!

The creators of TPB love The League of Gentleman, so you can't say Canadians don't get dark British humour - that show went...

Re: Canadian wine

I'm going through the NS Jost wines at the moment. Good Chardonnay, some interesting stuff I've never heard of before (I think one of them is a New York grape or something...OMG it's good...) Grand...

Re: On woot......

Nevermind illegal downloading, I wonder if there's a way ISPs can block people from the internet every time they use that stupid word 'w00....'

Re: This takes the biscuit for being dumb on a Friday

I can see the logic your brain took. Maybe the big post office would be too busy - you may have to join a new, very long queue to buy a stamp as the person giving you the registered mail couldn't...

Re: Halifax meetup?

Sorry I've not replied this thread for ages, my computer died (felt like a limb had been hacked off...) Anyway, any evening or weekend lunchtime is good for me! Or weekend lunch followed by weekend...

Halifax meetup?

Not saying I'm suffering from cabin fever or anything, but is there any upcoming meetups in HRM I haven't noticed?

It seems that half the ruddy UK lives here now, and I know how you all like a...

Re: Annual Leave in Canada

I've found Canadian companies better to work for. Free lunches, dinners, if you throw a sickie no-one cares much, loads of perks.

You won't actually want to go on holiday any more. :p

Re: Moved: Weather conditions.

Toronto - summer too hot, winter too cold. :D

The summer in Toronto is nice - hot, humid days (although the air pollution can get pretty bad), we were often sitting on bar patios at 1am in our...

Re: Home & Car insurance

We have been insured with Aviva for our motor home, car and house insurance. They have always accepted proof of no claims, even for the house insurance.

We hadn't thought about getting a proof of...

Re: Please answer the poll only if you are a successful PR landed immigrant .....

We used a consultant. I just wanted to make sure it was 100% right, it was too big a deal to mess up (and I'm lousy at filling in forms) and our consultant was very helpful throughout the whole...

Re: How sad is this?

I always wave at the CN Tower too.

I also say goodbye back to the newsreader at the end of the news, but they never say anything back.

Re: Leasing / Buying Camper Van

We bought a 1995 Firan for $22,000 when we arrived - it was about $10,000 cheaper than the other shitwagons we had looked at, at the time we thought it was either going to be a real bargain or conk...

Re: Mobile homes - any good?

We had a look at properties around Canmore/Banff area when we were passing - the realtor came back with the only property in our range - $350,000 for a trailer park property!

It was very nice,...
