Smile Heading to Cairns/Port Douglas for a holiday

Planning on heading up to Cairns or Port Douglas for about a week in April.

Plan to base ourselves in either of the above and take day trips.

Got two young kids (five and three).

Any advice...

Re: Why are IT salaries in OZ so less(Comparitively)

The exchange rate between two currencies is of NO relevance when comparing salaries in the same(ish) job in those two countries. More relevant is the cost of living and what the $ you earn will buy...

Re: I love Adelaide / SA

Mods: Quick close off this thread while the going is good.

Must be a record for the highest number of positive comments about Adelaide.

Act quick.

Re: Number of Holiday Days in Sydney

Snap. I had 30 days in the UK (private, not public) and it's 20 days here. But it's not as cut & dried as that because here you get other types of leave: sick (which accrues?), long service, care,...

Re: When they ask you..."What's your salary expectation?"

When I lived in the UK, the ad I put out had the salary range quoted, so at least folk had some idea. Here, for some reason, unless its a Govt role then a salary range is not quoted and it's all...

Re: When they ask you..."What's your salary expectation?"

I hire and my response to that answer is nope. I then ask: based on the job description we have discussed, the role I've outlined and your skills and experience, what do you believe an appropriate...

Re: Amazon M&S and Greggs

Nope. Think again.

For example, there's a Greggs in a shopping centre in the middle of Chelmsford. Can't get much more southern than that.

Re: anyone moved from adelaide? are you warmer

I live near Adelaide and, as my name may suggest, live in the Hills. Yes it gets 'cold' here in Winter - had 'ice' on the windscreen the other morning. But during the day (most days anyway) the sky...

Re: Adelaide or Melbourne?

Three months in each place is a great plan if you want to get a good idea both areas. My advice is to go where your best chance of good employment is: getting the money part sorted isn't everything,...

Re: MOVING TO ADELAIDE

Without some idea of your budget (to buy or rent a house) it's pretty difficult for people on here to give you any sensible advice. Best schools? Public or private (and again, budget)? Commuting?...

Re: Aldinga/Aldinga Beach

It's a fair hike to the city, but this is only an issue if you expect to work in the CBD or anywhere north of the CBD. You have one of the largest malls in the Adelaide area on your doorstep (ish) -...

Re: Adelaide - yes or no

There are worse places; there are better places. So far, so helpful I know. Many on here think that Adelaide is the worst place on this vast island, others love it here.

I live here. I like it,...

Re: Worried about having no friends or family support when get to Oz...

So, we were in exactly the same boat. Two of us and a toddler. We moved here not knowing anyone, but whether you move around the world or even 100 miles from 'home' to a new part of you existing...

Re: Coronation Street/Eastenders/Emmerdale

No, no, no and nope. Before I moved here I used to watch Corrie and Emmerdale, but found Eastenders too depressing. Just have digital TV, not bothered with Foxtel, etc. Find the frequency of the ads...

Re: Hospitals in Adelaide

OK, let's not over complicate this but Burnside to FMC is hardly the commute of the century. If OP was in Gawler, Andrews Farm or Semaphore then I'd say RAH over FMC sure, but Burnside?

Burnside...

Re: Hospitals in Adelaide

Burnside to the RAH is a piece of cake, but then again Burnside to FMC is no great shakes either. Good luck with the move.

Re: Hospitals in Adelaide

Not a clinical person, but have lived here for a couple of years, so: these are the two biggest hospitals in Adelaide (and therefore South Australia). The RAH is right in the CBD (city) and it is the...

Re: Knebworth 1979 - Chas And Dave Support Led Zep

Wasn't my first gig (I think that was Whitesnake in 82), but I saw Deep Purple at Knebworth in 85 and yes they were the business.
