Re: advice from those who went to Canada

We emigrated to Vancouver in 2001 - same reasons as most others. You are so focussed on coming that you only fully appreciate all the things you leave behind when you are on the other side. Nothing...

Re: Waste of a chunk of your life

I have found this thread interesting to read as 'we' are all scattered and by the sound of it not too happy. My husband and I now find ourselves caught up again in this situation. It is all our own...

Re: Am I homesick??

Can't say our experiences have been much different.

We have returned after a year back in the UK and are going through all the ups and downs of having to settle in again.

Finding work seems to...

Re: Did you change location in Canada after landing..and why?

Andy,

We seem to have done this twice now...UK to Vancouver to UK to Toronto.

Work seems to be a big consideration.

I am exhausted by the whole process but don't relish the idea of...

Re: second time around?

BB,

I am in a similar situation. Unless you go back and give it a go you will never know. Your situation has changed now and it's time to focus on you.

Re: Birmingham - Vancouver

I lived in Vancouver for 6 years. I have to be honest - it rains for a very long period of the year - October to say April/May, sometimes even longer. Yes, when summer arrives it is great but you...

Re: where are most brits moving to and why.

Gosh, this makes interesting reading. We are heading to the GTA - mainly because of work. Never considered the Maritimes but it sounds appealing. Like the idea of low house prices and being near...

Re: bRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Joking apart - how do you manage the cold? Is it a matter of 'Grin and Bear It?!'

I have yet to experience the Ontario cold. It is incredibly mild here, down south in the UK - the crocuses and...

Re: Relocating to York Region, Ontario

Novo,

Thanks for this. The aim is to find a base in Richmond Hill, get a feel for the surrounding areas and then take it from there. I had hoped to manage without a car initially but it looks...

Re: Relocating to York Region, Ontario

Jeanette,

Thanks for your reply.

How funny - I was in Birmingham this weekend.

I think as with all these things it is the unknown that proves daunting.

I plan to be there in four to six...

Re: Anybody else feel scared by the annormity of it all?

Yes, it is all rather incredibly overwhelming. It is a big decision and of course you are leaving the known and heading to the unknown. It is not easy. We have done it and went through all the...

Hi Novo. I've homed in on Richmond Hill as a starting point as I see it being literally central of the York region and thus 'easy' to access the surrounding areas. I notice that there are good...

Re: Relocating to York Region, Ontario

We spent six years in Vancouver. We are back in the UK but only temporarily. We are looking to move to Ontario and have homed in on the York region. As mentioned it is reasonably close to Toronto.

Re: The Weather in Toronto!

I've been away for a few days.

Enjoyed reading all the replies about the weather.
