Re: Co-op Guernsey closing, need a new UK expat account

I am going to be looking again for a UK expat account with low fees and low minimum balance. Standard in IOM have been fine for service but now my new Dutch bank also wants a substantial deposit to...

Re: Co-op Guernsey closing, need a new UK expat account

I heard back from Santander Jersey. They do offer free BACS internet transfers but require a minimum "$50,000 relationship" with the bank. And they only offer accounts to UK residents or UK expat...

Re: Co-op Guernsey closing, need a new UK expat account

Hey vivsim. Standard have been slightly disappointing, I agree. Because I was daft enough to assume that the Isle of Man is part of the UK I did not expect to pay fees (GBP15) to send an internet...

Re: Co-op Guernsey closing, need a new UK expat account

Just to close off the thread I chose Standard Bank. Had not heard of them either but some research showed that they are sizable and their branch in the Isle of Man is covered by the normal IOM...

Re: Advice on Dunedin

We have been in Dunedin for just over three years now (Brits). As the other poster noted, watch out for areas that don't get enough/any winter sun - you'll freeze your bits off. We live in Maori Hill...

Are all NZ pension fund contributions tax free?

Am trying to answer this simple question for my partner. I realize that Kiwisaver contributions direct from salary are paid from your gross salary before it is taxed (a benefit).

If she decides...

Re: Are Kiwi employers 'rude'?

Oh, and forgot to mention the colleague at my partner's (new) job who stormed out of the room when a previous 'difference of opinion' was politely brought up in a team meeting. The kind of team...

Re: Are Kiwi employers 'rude'?

Have to agree with this. When we arrived (5 years ago) my partner had organized an Auckland job with a large multi-national engineering consultancy. It was pretty surprising to hear that they had...

Re: Co-op Guernsey closing, need a new UK expat account

Natwest Jersey customer service seem ok, respond to emails fast. But the content of their reply was not very positive. They wrote "Gold accounts are only offered to local residents" which seems to...

Re: LONELINESS, some questions.

On the friends/acquaintances issue we found that it was much easier to make friends with other expats rather than Kiwis. We assume its because Kiwis already have well established social networks and...

Re: Co-op Guernsey closing, need a new UK expat account

Thanks. From their site Llyods now seems to require GBP2500 minimum balance permanently otherwise they charge GBP20 month. And no loss and damage waiver on car hire, just travel insurance.

Co-op Guernsey closing, need a new UK expat account

As the Co-op Guernsey is closing its doors in 2014 I am looking for a new UK bank account to help with payments for home. Llyods and Natwest made the shortlist as they have the least onerous...

Re: Is skin cancer/moles an obstacle to work visa?

Cheers, well the moles are now off and we wait for the docs letter. The doc at the medical says we should wait to get that before sending in the work visa app.

Re: A question from a New Zealand newbie

Platty, maybe this will help. We had to do the same calculations recently. We spoke to a few recent expats and one told us that he earned in NZ about half what he earned in the UK (direct conversion...
