Hi, I'm also a fireman in the UK (been in the job for 12 years). I'm going over to Oz on a Student Visa in 2 weeks, as transferring to the fire brigade over there was just a none starter.

Oh, forgot to say, you can't apply for permission to work the 20 hours until the course has started, so even though we leave for Oz on 08/06/08, we can't even think about working until after 14/07/08...

I applied for the course which starts on 14/07/08 on 18/09/07 and was accepted on 21/09/07

My COE (which you need to apply for your Visa) came through on 26/9/07.
