I must admit to getting slightly concerned with regards to work.
I'm lucky that at the moment I'm working from home in Perth for the company I worked for in the UK. I'm a customer services manager for an internet based company and have applied for more than a dozen jobs here, most of which I'm easily qualified for both with skills and experience yet I've heard back from none of them.
I applied to a couple of agencies last week, but have also not heard back from them. I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with my CV, as it does seem very strange.

Have you redone your CV so it's in the Aussie Resume style? Makes a huge difference from what I've seen. Also don't mention that a) you're not Australian or b) you've got a visa. Let them assume you're an Aussie resident

Yeah my Aussie wife went over my CV with me, wording it was more of the Australian resume style.
I think it's obvious from the CV that I'm British from my previous employment

There is that. Unfortunately you just have to keep hammering away. Some are lucky and find the right job immediately, others go through two or three first and it can take months but you're not alone by any means. I think with the agencies you really have to keep bugging them, don't let your details get too far down the pile.

Hi all
we are looking to go to Oz in the next 2 years. My wife is a Student nurse and qualifies at the end of the year. I am a Firefighter.
I am really concerned about the move.My nature is that I risk assess things! I dont want to end up on a till at Coles or Woolworths and want a worthwhile career. (no offence to anyone who works in|Coles or Woolies!) I quite fancy getting into the Fire service over there or the police or even the Correction service as I used to due this before I joined the Fire service. My plan B is that I am currently studying at college, AAT accounting.
A few questions:
Anyone gone over there and done something completely different with less money but it is worth it?
Any got into the police, fire or correction service in Oz and got any tips? How long did it take?
Have some states got more employment prospects than other
Anyone went to college as a "mature" student and retrained into a another career?
Anyone gone over there with AAT qualifications and how easy was it to get a job? Did you have to do anything to get the qualifications recognised?
Many thanks for your help in advance!
