We moved to Guildford from the US mid last-year. It isn't cheap. However it is very nice and has good schools. There are however some less nice bits and this is where you can find cheaper...

worth considering opening an account *locally* with HSBC and then asking them if they can help you with opening a UK account - we found they really did deliver on this 'world's local bank' thing....

April didn't necessarily make it easier to find the place - it's just that a place became available as of the beginning of the Summer term and we're taking it....
