Yup, I'm meant to be travelling from Dublin to Christchurch this Thursday and it looks incredibly unlikely....

Yup! Flying on the NZ 1 from LHR to Auckland, leaving 22 April, arriving 24 April. Then connecting down to Christchurch before making my way to Dunedin :)

Freaky! I'm in EXACT same situation in Alberta, my BUNAC expires on 14 November as well and don't know if I can keep working till my LMO decision comes back. It's all a bit of a pain isn't it?

I would suggest a down jacket. Expensive investment but absolutely worth it. I paid $300 for a North Face one from a consignment store in Van and it has been worth every cent.
