Re: Kind of returning to S.A.

At what point does the level of crime affect you? I guess certain people are capable of a higher tolerance to percieved levels of crime than others.

It takes guts to live in South Africa. Good for...

Re: hello from an American

I don't get why Americans want to come to NZ. I can understand why Brits do, cos the UK has gone down the gurgler, but not Americans...

America is so big, surely there must be somewhere suitable?...

of course she denies she's an alcoholic : It's part of the disease! If she had cancer would you attack her for that too?

Re: auckland versus the rest of nz

NZ is very diverse. If you want solitude and a certain frontier spirit head to the South Island west coast. It's amazing.

Re: The highs and lows

Absolutely, the best thing any migrant can do imho is throw themselves into NZ culture. Forget the old country: It's finished! It's like a bloated has been singer.

For me that means no more...

Re: food better or worse than uk

I live in welly and have found a great place for sausages: Island Bay Butchery. They do all the English bangers, South African vors, Italian pork and fennel, Spanish Choritzo etc.

Best...

Re: surprised nobody has mentioned the hammer attack?

I think certain people have got a bit defensive about child abuse/crime on this thread.

I guess i'll pack my bags for Antartica

Re: surprised nobody has mentioned the hammer attack?

Funny. Like your "love it or leave it" stance. Why am I being paranoid about talking about child abuse, about people having their heads caved in with a hammer, about a child put in a tumble drier?

Re: surprised nobody has mentioned the hammer attack?

Fair enough. What would you consider an appropriate thread then? Give me a suitable topic.

Why is it that if you bring up a problem with NZ society you are invited to "find somewhere else to...

Re: surprised nobody has mentioned the hammer attack?

Absoultely :) plenty of threads about where to get a dime bar.

I have been living in NZ for over 6 years now, so I don't really particulary care how it compares to England etc. Better? Sure.

Re: auckland versus the rest of nz

I don't know why people slag Auckland, i guess it's an easy target, and perhaps a certain amount of jealousy creeps in with regards to weather, jobs etc. Cool place to live.

I live in Wellington...

You are not concerned about NZ having the 2nd highest child abuse figures in the world ?

If you don't think it's a big problem now, when would you consider it a problem? When NZ is...

Re: surprised nobody has mentioned the hammer attack?

True, 'cos hopefully you don't do that to your own kids. But it is a reflection of NZ society, and eventually one you will be a part of. Like gangs. They are a problem too. Petty crime. Criminals in...

Re: surprised nobody has mentioned the hammer attack?

why are you getting infuriated? These things happen here as they do anywhere else in the world.

Fact. NZ has the 2nd highest per capita child abuse figures in the world, behind South Africa....
