Your situation may be different...but I think you'll find you DO have to live in the sponsoring state for the first 2 years, THEN you can live anywhere in Oz.

We have been in Rockingham (which I highly recommend, on first impressions) for just under 2 weeks now from UK.
We arrived with our double luggage allowance and just 15 teachests on route.

We took state sponsorship to WA.
Currently staying in short-term rental in Rockingham. Not too sure where to settle after that, it's all so nice! Somewhere nearby though.
