Re: Sight reading Any Primary teachers here Aus

No, this style of teaching seems to be common in reading over here. People tell me I'm a bit obsessed because I harp on and on about phonics in the primary school I teach at. Come the next academic...

Re: Moved to Melbourne - looking for friends!

I recognise the sentiments of your posts very well.

We've been here just 11 months and as a couple around 40 with two young children, it has been far more difficult to make friends than we had...

Re: Confusion -3 year trained UK teacher, is sponsorship still an option?

Teach Australia is now called something else (via that weblink). You would, as I understand, still need a 'for migration' assessment just as in the old system.

I noticed that all three types of...

Re: Confusion -3 year trained UK teacher, is sponsorship still an option?

I'm not sure here. When I applied for teacher registration 2 years ago (aside from immigration) in the state of Victoria, they stipulated 4 years which I managed with my BA + PGCE.

I'm not sure...

Re: Family tax benefit

We applied for FTB and Rent Assistance within the first couple of weeks of arriving in Australia when only one of us was working. We ended up with about $500 a fortnight.

We rang and asked them...

Re: Travelling to OZ on different passport than visa grant

It was simply an admin error. Three of the four visas were correctly logged to our passports. They just overlooked him. It took 20mins for it to be corrected at the airport.

I was interested...

Re: Travelling to OZ on different passport than visa grant

You don't need your visa letter to enter Australia as the visa is attached to your passport number.

We entered without a visa sticker in our passports but ended up getting one when we arrived as...

Re: Which company did you use to help?

We arrived on our 175 visa back in August last year and we did the whole thing ourselves from filling the forms to sending qualifications off for verification.

It was surprisingly straightforward...

Re: Teaching in Oz

I'm afraid I think it would be very unlikely you would get a permanent 175 visa as a teacher. I ran your details through the visa checker and couldn't get anywhere near 120.

Might it be worth...

Re: Do you need your visa evidenced in your passport? Answer: Yes

Hi Nicky

I'm primary and I think Victoria is a bit more enlightened about their job adverts in that they are all listed on a Education website and you can apply online. I don't remember QLD being...

Do you need your visa evidenced in your passport? Answer: Yes

We've just passed our second week in Australia and I thought I'd pass on one aspect of our experience so far to ease other people along.

When we got our visa, we read the advice that said we did...

Good reports of moving-to-melbourne.com?

I've been looking for temporary accommodation when we arrive in Melbourne.

Has anyone had any dealings with moving-to-melbourne.com?

It looks like a great business and they seem to have a lot...

Re: A teacher new to OZ - My experience so far

If I were you, I'd try and work out how the visas are running for your type. Use the beupdate.co.uk site. We submitted in March 08 but didn't get a case officer until November. For us it was 8...

Re: A teacher new to OZ - My experience so far

I hope you don't have a long wait for your visa then. When your visa does come through, you'll only have a year from the date of your meds to activate your visa! We were lucky that our pccs, when...

Re: A teacher new to OZ - My experience so far

I'm 41 and too old to get my own visa. I sent my six-years-younger nurse wife off to do the IELTS and get us our visa with 125 points.

I have held off my registration application (as I wasn't...

Re: A teacher new to OZ - My experience so far

Hi Halshaw

When we started the visa process, I was worried about getting transcripts from 20 years ago too. After a couple of phonecalls to University Registrars, they couldn't have been more...

Infant in the UK is the first 3 years of formal school. I've been teaching 6-7 year olds for the last 10 years.

I agree wholeheartedly about the role model aspect of men teaching younger...

I'm about to...

Re: what will my salary be in VIC?

Our visa arrived on Friday and so it's now certain that we'll be in Victoria by the end of August. My wife will have a job before we go (she's a nurse) so we know money will be coming in.

I'm...

Re: how long from CO receiving Meds and PCC are decisions given?

We're in the same boat. Applied Mar 08, called for meds and pcc on 14 Nov. Sent pccs about 2 weeks later, meds the full week before Christmas. We're hoping the CO gets to our paperwork soon.
