Re: carnivorous culture

A few places on Ponsonby road, down at the harbourfront etc... I did notice the quality of food and service to be very high. When I finally get there to live, I will
be cooking for myself every day...

Re: carnivorous culture

Interesting. I only ate at one steak house, the others were full menu restaurants. I didn't do any grocery shopping. I have a mixed diet, I try to get a bit of everything in.

I'm by no means a vegetarian, but when I was in Auckland the restaurants seemed to all serve a main course of meat, piled onto a mash of potato, or kumara which is like a yam. Now there's sentence...

Re: Can the camping gear come?

Yeah, you would have to declare it, and it would be inspected etc. I would clean it all very carefully and then at least try. Why give up good gear? You could likely make it pretty spotless with a...

Re: Calgary v Toronto?

I grew up in the Toronto area and have been living in Calgary for a year. I will return to Toronto in all likelyhood. Calgary has a different culture. It's a booming town of new money from the oil...

Re: Renting a bach - pay before arrival?

Renting by the week in general will take some adjustment for me. In Canada, we pay by the month. Laws vary province to province, but 1.5 to 2 months rent upfront is standard.

Re: what exactly do we need??

Sunblock. I'm not being cheeky. I just came back from two weeks there. The one truly gorgeous day I spent on Waiheke Island. Wear sunblock. Especially the kids.

Re: what exactly do we need??

Make sure your references include proof of seniority/experience, not just x was a good employee. Proof of the job offer in writing. I've heard different things about Visa strategies. I'm applying for...
