Default Can the camping gear come?

As a pair of slightly adventurous camping bikers, I'd just like to know whether it's going to be a lot of bother to bring our tent and stuff .
We're more than willing to chuck it in the container, but surely backpacker's tents come to NZ every day, and they can't all be spotless.
Are MAF likely to reject a tent? It was a bargain, but not to the extent that an inspection fee is worth more than a replacement.

Have a look at this link and judge for yourself whether it's worth it, tents can be pretty pricey over here once you're earning dollars and we're kicking ourselves for leaving our family sized frame tent behind.

Canada Southbound is an unknown quantity at this point

Yeah, you would have to declare it, and it would be inspected etc. I would clean it all very carefully and then at least try. Why give up good gear? You could likely make it pretty spotless with a bit of effort.

I brought all my camping (and potholing) gear. This included 2 (very expensive) backpacking tents. No problems - just make sure you wipe the ground sheet clean and vac out all the grass and dead bugs. It doesn't have to be spotless, just don't have any seeds/grass/insects in there and you'll be fine.

Camping stuff here is similar to the uk price wise. Plenty of cheap tat for 'family' camping available, lots of expensive high end kit for the mountaineer/ serious tramper.

One of our tents had loads of grass in it when MAFF opened it, oops! We had cleaned it, but on the lawn and in a big hurry. It had to go off to be cleaned by MAFF contractors but for some reason we didn't get billed for it, which was nice.

Incidentally if anyone is looking for cheap tents they are on sale at K-Mart this week, looks like the usual Chinese stuff but will be OK for a season or two, and the prices are a bit cheaper then they were in the UK last year when I was buying our tent. If you're looking at the Kathmandu site you can take 25% off the prices as they give you a membership discount card once you've bought one thing, and they have sales as well.
