The first thing to find out is where in Shenzhen. Is it somewhere like Shekou which is heavily expat focused or somewhere in Longgang or Baoan where it's extremely underdeveloped.

Prepaid SIMs no problem at all. All of the phone providers do them - 3, Vodafone, CSL, Peoples, New World, PCCW / Sunday. All have shops in all corners of HK.

For even more convenience 7-11 also...

Well there are different levels as far as the supply for schools and for learning centres, etc. For local schools in HK there is a NET teacher scheme but this is mainly for degree holding teachers...

There is no such thing as an open working visa. A company must sponsor and you are only able to work for that one company.

There isn't. To get a working visa a company here must sponsor you. They need to prove why a local cannot be employed to do that job. For graphic design that would be very difficult as HK is awash...

August is normally very hot and very humid which can make it extremely uncomfortable for travelers from more temperate climates. There may be the occasional monsoon rain but shouldn't be too much....

To be honest not much, not unless you can speak Cantonese and read and write traditional Chinese and admin pay here is very low, in fact extremely low.

If you are from UK there is no Working Holiday Visa arrangement with HK. You will need to find a company here in HK that is willing to employ you and sponsor you for a Employment Visa. To do this...
