Re: Where's my stuff???

Have done so already, hopefully it will cause some kind of response. So far, I've heard nothing at all.

Sullivan Mayflower (not my choice -- work insisted on them).

Re: Where's my stuff???

It turned up, but I'm not amazingly happy. There was quite a bit of damage -- a 20" flat screen LCD monitor was basically destroyed, having obviously been dropped from a considerable height onto one...

Angry Where's my stuff???

Well, I've now been here for a month and a half (not counting a 13000 miles in one weekend trip back to the UK for my graduation -- seemed like a good idea at the time!). My stuff was originally...

Re: International banker's draft

I had $5k in cash and $30k-odd as a banker's draft. I declared both, because I wasn't sure whether the 10k limit was total or per instrument. Like I said, it wasn't a problem, I went through the red...

Re: International banker's draft

I did the NYC draft thing. It worked, but I ended up with a 2 week hold on the deposit on the US end. Tip: leave some money in the UK that you can use via an existing card, and take quite a bit of...

Re: International banker's draft

I have the same issue with an inheritance. It's not due to UK inheritance tax (the money isn't enough for that). I'm just basically saying, sod it, I'm transferring it anyway, and I'll dump it on an...

Re: International banker's draft

I'll see what they ask when I ask for a big (huge, enormous) pile of stuff to be delivered. There is no way I can do it any other way, realistically -- I'm on my own here, and can't really lift very...

Re: International banker's draft

Actually, the problem with my UK account is that there's no money in it, because I transferred it to my US account... Nevertheless, I can get money from the bank easily enough in cash, and the branch...

Re: International banker's draft

Well, the story so far:

I passed subject to corrections (this is the usual thing).

One of the examiners was fine, the other was a bit of a PITA and insisted on lots of niggly changes, but he...

Re: Favourite Places?

Pacific coast of CA. I've only been north of SF, specifically on the stretch up to Mendocino, but it is truly spectacular there. I want to visit the coast south of SF sometime soon -- I'm a long-time...

Sounding like a Yank

Well, I've been in the US three days now. And I just got accused of having a trace of American in my accent, whilst on the phone to my other half back in the UK.

:scared: OK, I'm doomed. ...

Re: I'm there! (Or here. Or something.)

It's very easy. Go back to the USA page (the one that lists all the threads). Just above the blue bar at the top of the list (underneath the Trailer Park link), there is a button on the left hand...

Re: I'm there! (Or here. Or something.)

Actually, they did moan a bit. They wanted me to start on the Wednesday, because no one would be in on the Monday to do the paperwork. As it happens, I've arranged to go in on the previous friday to...

Re: I'm there! (Or here. Or something.)

I'm here for a job. Unlike a lot of people here, I didn't marry anyone! :-)

I'm currently getting somewhere to live and other basics sorted out for the next couple of weeks, but I start on July...

I'm there! (Or here. Or something.)

Well, I am now in Mountain View, CA.

I arrived on Wednesday, picked up my supertanker-on-wheels hire car (seemingly, no one wants 'full size' cars any more, so you tend to get 'upgraded' for free...

International banker's draft

3 weeks today I will be in CA. Eek!

Anyway, now that's out of the way, I just wondered if anyone has experience of using an international banker's draft to bring funds to the US?

Some time...

Re: International Autosource -- kosher or not?

I have full no claims in the UK, and have driven for over 20 years without a single endorsement on my licence, so it could save me a *lot* to have this taken into account.

My only problem is...

Re: International Autosource -- kosher or not?

Thanks -- yes, by the looks of it they are for-real. I am a bit torn on this. I *could* buy a car outright for cash, but I'd still have the insurance hassle. If I go with them, they would sort out...

International Autosource -- kosher or not?

Hi all,

One of the moving companies who quoted me put me in touch with a company called International Autosource, who claim to be able to supply new Audis, VWs, Chryslers and (some other US brand,...
