Re: Serious Q - Freelancing...

Yeah, it's not much cop for freelance jobs really. www.writerfind.co.nz tends to be a bit better.

Thanks for the advice though.

Serious Q - Freelancing...

Ok, so my contract finishes tomorrow and i'm looking at going freelance for the foreseeable future. A risk, admitedly but unless the perfect job comes up, I don't want to go back into the rat race.

Re: Just how far behind the UK is NZ???

It's like a parallel universe with no history to speak of really though, it's like the country just rose up out of the ocean last week or something...

Just how far behind the UK is NZ???

So, off the top of my head, and in no particular order, I was thinking that New Zealand has the following issues:

1. No insulation in the homes as standard
2. Piss poor wages
3. More...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

Mine also. Being able to sit in an interview for a job and tell them that i've had extensive contact with media the world over and run PR campaigns on a worldwide basis goes a long way.

I think...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

I wouldn't exactly say a position of authority but I do know what's going on and I do have a fair amount of dealings with the councils in the Auckland area. And i'm certainly not a politician but I...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

First off, let's get something straight. I wasn't judging you as a person and I wasn't telling you how to live your life. I was simply responding to a comment you made that I thought was...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

Thanks. I can't stand that attitude, it drives me insane. If you really want to effect change, you can, it just takes some effort.

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

That's possibly the most self-defeating and frankly, stupid, thing i've ever heard. In many cases, such as in a restaurant for example, if you don't complain that the service is poor, the manager...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

I'm sorry, this is what i wrote, word for word:

"A perfect example of this is the Kiwi obsession with having a V8. With the current road laws, not to mention speed limits, having one of these gas...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

Don't be a pillock. If you're going to make sweeping generalisations, at least insert some intelligence into them first.

NZ has a culture that puts more than normal emphasis on using your car for...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

So if you are living in the public transport hub of Auckland and everyone could quite easily take the ferry to work or the bus, why is the road from Devonport to the motorway a complete car park...

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

Actually, it doesn't. We have about 411 million barrels of oil sitting at P50 status. The stats in the CIA report are as of January 2002. The stats I was quoting are as of July 2005.

Re: So it's not just us Brits that can Whinge

New Zealand Aluminium Smelters, they use a huge amount of electricity. This one facility uses 5.6 TWh of power annually apparently. NZ generates about 36TwH annually... so you do the maths.

I...
