Re: ETA in effect for Canadians 25 February 2026

I recently travelled to the UK on a Canadian passport with an ETA in it, that I obtained in 2025. I can't recall whether I knowingly didnt answer the "Do you have another nationality" question or...

I have nothing to add to this thread other than the delight of seeing two OG posters communicating!

Re: ETA in effect for Canadians 25 February 2026

Neither of my kids have British passports. Having to obtain them just to enter the bloody country is a PITA. I'm curious as to what happens if we pitch up, me on my UK PP and them on their Canadian...

Re: ETA in effect for Canadians 25 February 2026

Re: Change to Dual Nationals travel to UK 26th Feb 2026

Thing is I did apply for an ETA a year or two ago on my Canadian PP. I did it because I could travel on my Canadian PP and leave my British one at home.
I can't recall when it expires. I still have...

Re: Getting UK toaster to work in Canada

I've lived here for 20 years but frequently travel back to the UK. May I ask, are UK toasters any different from North American toasters? If they toast more quickly, is the utility of that worth the...

Re: Anyone flown to the UK recently

You can travel on one passport and enter the country on another. I applied for the ETA - which bizarrely and rather offensively requires you to pay in USD as a Canadian! - simply for the ease of...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Randomly and tangentially from your post...

The most famous place in NB for those of us that live here on the Rock is not Moncton but rather Dieppe. All parcels go through Dieppe - Canada Post,...

Re: Leasing a car as a newcomer

It's 20 years ago now but I leased a car as a newly landed permanent resident. I don't believe I had to put down any more deposit or pay any higher rate than because of that.
They were concerned...

Re: Life throws a curve ball at us ........

Sorry to hear of the unfortunate turn your life has taken, but you seem to be making progress in dealing with the curve ball. Generally, I think we find that we are more resilient than we think when...

Re: Buying property outright in Calgary

Also, note that selling a house in Canada usually involves 4-5% in realtors fees. So, depending upon house price inflation / sellability you could be out money when you come to sell.

Re: Moving to Canada, and becoming a teacher

AFAIK there is no post-graduate PGCE type of entry into teaching in Canada. The only entry is through doing a teaching degree in Canada or getting a foreign teaching degree assessed - and likely...

Re: Why are the potatoes so rubbish?

The more pertinent problem seems to be finding large spuds to bake in the first place. Here, the general bags of potatoes consist of all small ones, none large enough to bake. Alternatively you can...
