Just estimate and estimate on the high side, so that if you say 10 boxes of books and bring in 8 no one cares. If you said 6 and bring 8 then that's not so good is it? On the other hand they don't...

Sounds fine. There is nothing wrong with landing then heading out again, just make sure you get a Goods To Follow list stamped by customs.

No, but maintaining residency in two places can be a juggling act. Better try to get Aus citizenship first. It can be done though as both countries have 2/5 residency rules.

Doesn't really matter, as its all tax free import, however it is supposed to be full retail or replacement value. They don't actually read your list just stamp it until the goods actually arrive and...
