Lived in Joondalup for year now live up the road in Clarkson. Edgewater's a good suburb AFAIK. 25 mins from the CBD by train. 5 mins the other way to Joondalup where the shopping complex is expanding...

AFAIK all UK mobiles work on the same GSM frequencies as OZ so your upgrade should work. As for whether your phone is locked to your supplier my g/f had a similar problem. She had a PAYG with Tesco...
