Have you tried to use a bank card to transfer funds into Transferwise to activate the account. I never used bank transfer and always used a debit card to place funds.

Just open an account with Transferwise. ATM card available. Add what ever currencies you wish to use. You can then decide what currency to send out to another bank. Once set up, it is very easy...
